I deactivated all other plugins, and reset to TwentyTen, and the issue persists.

I feel like I may not have a full understanding about how the WSIWYG editor in the notification email section handles CSS styling. Even when the CSS is neutered via open comment tags, I can visualize the CSS styling on the WSIWYG. However, my email client respects these ill gotten tags and correctly doesn't display my CSS styling. I did find a temporary fix. I simply anticipate the open comment tags with my own closing tags. What fun!

Is the Disable Auto-formatting checkbox in charge of injecting these CSS neutering comment tags, or is that checkbox simply for paragraph markup? If the WSIWYG is honoring that checkbox, then where are these comment tags originating from?

Is there a place in the WP DB where I can check the TRUE FALSE value of that box on my form?

Sounds like you are experiencing some kind of conflict with another plugin or your theme. Can you go through the following steps to double check. http://www.gravityhelp.com/documentation/page/Testing_for_a_Theme/Plugin_Conflict

I am creating an HTML notification email. However, I can't seem to save my text without gravity forms neutering the CSS by injecting a comment tag before the style.

I have checked/unchecked Disable Auto-formatting with no joy. It seems to auto-format my html either way. This happens when I Save settings or if switch from the text editor to visual editor and back to text. Anyone else experiencing this odd behavior?
