You have to have a PayPal Premier or Business account in order for shipping and taxes to be an option. A personal account doesn't have these options. So you need to find in PayPal where you set your account as a Business account and then you can set these up.

Thanks.

I've taken a look but, weirdly, there's no option like that for me in my account. I wonder if it's a jurisdictional thing...

Hi Richard, I have no experience with the Gravity Forms PayPal add on, but I do have experience with setting the tax rates at PayPal. I found these settings in my account by going to My Account > Profile > More Options > My Selling Tools (the you can see sales tax, and "update".)

There are two screenshots here. I am in the US so I have only state of Illinois taxes to worry about, but there are international options as well.

A couple screenshots (new sharing service; sorry if they don't come up well):

Hi Carl - Just wondering what you thought of this please. As for the PayPal end, am I missing something there in terms of an ability to define a specific tax component?

Many thanks
Richard

Thanks Carl. I haven't for the life of me figured out how to set up tax options at the PayPal end for the GF/PayPal kind of set-up. While one can create invoice templates within PayPal, I can't see how they can work with GF.

However, I have thought of a potential work-around. Where someone needs to charge goods and services or value added tax for a product or service, and only a single product/service at a fixed price is being sold through the form, then it seems one could use two "Product" fields. The first product field specifies the unit price for the good/service, and the second product field is used for the tax component. You then add a "Total" field to calculate the overall, tax inclusive, price. That total price is what PayPal then charges. I've not yet figured out how to get my "goods and service tax, tax number" into the PayPal receipt, but I can probably manage that through a creative use of the form fields or perhaps the PayPal backend.

What do you think? This solution won't work where a good or service is being sold in multiple jurisdictions, because in one's home jurisdiction the goods and services tax will be chargeable/payable whereas selling overseas will probably be zero-rated, but one could probably get around that by using duplicate forms, one for the local jurisdiction (with the tax field) and one for overseas (without).

What do you think?

Cheers
Richard

Currently the Add-On does not support taxes. However, you should be able to setup tax options in your PayPal account so that tax is charged during the PayPal checkout process.
