If the shortcode wizard isn't inserting the shortcode into your post then it's probably a browser cache issue. You will need to completely clear your browser cache and restart your browser and try again. What has probably happened is your browser has cached the JS for that page and hasn't loaded the JS necessary for that wizard to insert the code.

The forms should look good with most themes, out of the box but we can't take into account everything as we have no control over the theme CSS. If you are having some sort of issue you may need to add some CSS to your theme to style things the way you want them.

Carl,

Not to worry. I just downloaded the Head GF Leaf and it took care of my problem. Thank you for all your help. It's always great to get quick, clear support.

Carl,

Excellent suggestions. I tested the email using my own address and it worked perfectly. The form preview is also good.

I could not, however, use the shortcode wizard, but I was able to write the shortcode and embed by hand.

I embedded on the typical Hello Word first post, but unfortunately the lines look like they are quadruple spaced. Right now I'm using the typical Georgia 13pt, line height 170% that seems to be the default.

Do I need to apply some CSS?

Thanks again.

If you want to show the end user the message to be sent in the Notification then what you can do is add an HTML Block field to your form and in it you could display what the message is going to be. You can then position this wherever you want in your form.

The HTML block accepts HTML so if you want to constrain the message within a scrollable div or textarea, then just add HTML to display it however you want.

As for the issue of embedding it in your post, you should be able to just insert the shortcode into your post. Or use the shortcode wizard by clicking the form icon in the insert/upload toolbar of the post editor. If you are having an issue with this, I mentioned we would need a login to take a look as it should work fine. You can read more on embedding a form here:

Carl

I'd rather not do that for the time being. As I said in my first post I want to create a form on a post that allows a reader to enter their name and email and then send a pre-written email to, in this case, a politician.

I can set up everything except the message to be displayed. Right now the description will show underneath the message field but that's not what I want. I want it in the message field.

I looks like I can configure the notification to administrator to use the email of the politician.

The only problem is showing the message to be sent. And eventually embedding it in my post.

Thanks.

Kevin,

I purchased GF and set up the form with name and email. I went to notifications and then inserted some preliminary language in the message. I used my email address in the email section. I also put a subject line in because that's required. When I preview the form it only shows the name and email fields. When I tried to embed the form nothing happens. I assume it is active because it is saved.

What am I missing?

Thanks.

Yes, its' pretty intuitive. Adding hidden fields is just like the other fields.. click to add it, then you expand it and set various properties.

screenshot

In thinking about this a little more, you could even skip the hidden field step and just get the users email address, etc. then format the body of the message to the recipient in the notifications area. You wouldn't need to pass the message value in the hidden field every time.

Kevin,

Thank you for your quick response. May I assume that saving a message in a hidden field will be fairly self-explanatory? For example, it's easy to accomplish on Formidable, but the end result is flat out ugly and I'd have to buy their pro version anyway. Given the Headway comments I'd rather try GF, if the option I mention above can be accomplished.

It's clear in the demo that this is a very good plugin for straight contact stuff.
