This sounds like a PHP memory issue. When you don't have enough available PHP memory the form editor won't allow you to save forms or add fields. WordPress may also behave strangely.

You need to first try increasing your available PHP memory. Here is a tutorial on how to do so:

http://www.nerdgrind.com/increase-wordpress-and-php-memory-limit/

It's common for shared hosts to set the default PHP memory very low. I suggest setting it to 64 MB at a minimum, and preferably 128 MB or more if you can.

You may need to get in touch with your web host to discuss how to do this as it can vary from host to host.

I've got GF on other websites without any issues so I know how to set up forms etc.

On this new site however, I can't add any fields of any type- click the field boxes and just nothing happens. Although I can change the name and description of the form (the default appearance), and open and close the field selection types (standard, advanced etc), I can't save the form. It just stays in the saving state without ever finishing the save.

This is using: WP 3.2.1 | BuddyPress 1.5.1 | GF 1.6.1
Note - this site is on the same server as the other sites that have working GF's - so it can't be a server issue
