I completely overlooked the facts:</p> <p>1) Merge tags are available in the subject line, and</p> <p>2) Gmail filters search message bodies, not just subject lines.</p> <p>The solution I decided on was to just include that field in the body of the email, and Gmail picks it up just like it ought to. Can you use the "Insert Merge Tag" drop down to insert that field into the subject line? If you don't want the whole selection, maybe use the value rather than the label, in your merge tag. I want to route *all* the emails to the same "support@" email address, but I want the subject line (or at least part of it) to be conditional based on the selection from the drop down.</p> <p>This is so that I can set up filters in my inbox to route the emails to a different folder based on the subject line. The goal is to have a small group of support staff that will manage the folder they're responsible for while still using the same inbox.</p> <p>Is there an easy way to accomplish this? Or, can you think of an alternate method to accomplish the same thing? I'd prefer to stay away from writing a bunch of php. </p>
