I'm not sure what confirmation page shortcodes you are referring to. Gravity Forms doesn't have any built in confirmation page shortcodes. What this forum post is in reference to is the fact that you can place shortcodes in the confirmation message and they will be executed, that is all.

I'm not familiar enough with the Facebook shortcode to know why, but i'm guessing it's relying on information it can't access when executed from within Gravity Forms itself. It should still be able to access post data, it just depends on what is it trying to do there may be limitations.

Thanks for the quick reply Carl, your explanation of how/where the shortcodes are executed from has helped me understand the fundamentals of how they work.

If the shortcode only needs to grab the URL and is otherwise self contained, would it still more than likely not work?

I guess I'm wondering why the Twitter SC works, while the Facebook one does not.

The shortcode can't be a shortcode that relies on post information to execute. Because the shortcode is executed from Gravity Forms it's outside the context of a post/page. So depending on what the shortcode may need to function, it's not guaranteed it will work. The shortcode needs to be self contained and able to be embedded anywhere.

I know that the confirmation page supports shortcodes, which is great.

My question is what to do if a particular shortcode doesn't work. I've added these two on a client site:

[tweetbutton]
and
[fblike]

The Twitter link works great, but the Facebook code displays only the code text. I'm assuming this is a 'flaw' with the Facebook plugin, but can anyone suggest a workaround?

Thanks
