When I suggested adding the class to the fields or the form, that was dependent on using the free 3rd party placeholder plugin from here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/gravity-forms-placeholders/

Dexx did not choose to use that plugin and used the auto placeholder plugin instead, because it sounds like he didn't know where to add the CSS class to use the plugin I linked to above. I was only explaining how to add that CSS class.

You will have to use one of these free plugins, or you can use something like this: http://www.gravityhelp.com/clearing-default-form-field-values-with-jquery/

Placeholder text is not a feature of Gravity Forms at this time.

Hi David,

I prefer not to use third party free plugins. Chris responded to a similar question about placeholder CSS classes:

"You can add the CSS class on the advanced tab of any field where you want a placeholder, or for the whole form, on the form settings page, as described in the plugin."

read: http://www.gravityhelp.com/forums/topic/easy-way-to-setup-a-form-structure-like-this

But I checked the documentation and can't find any CSS classes for that. Do I miss something here?

There are two add-ons that might help you with that:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/gravity-forms-placeholders/
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/gravity-forms-auto-placeholders/

These are created by third parties and should hopefully give you what you want.

I checked the documentation, and there are CSS classes for columns and inline. But what CSS class to add on the advanced tab of any field where I want a placeholder? (To have the labels placed inside the field forms so that they show the text info until the user clicks inside the field)
