I'm not familiar with Labelify, can you post a link to an example form where the problem is occurring so I can take a look at it?

Hey Carl -- thanks for getting back to me. I traced down the problem and it's that we're using some jQuery to force the labels inside the text fields. If we comment out the jQuery, your function works fine, but it seems like we can't do both. We're using a plugin called Labelify...do you have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Nobody else is reporting issues. Edit the drop down field, turn on the optional values and give the first option in your drop down a blank value. Make sure there is no blank spaces, etc. Just no value. Then set the field to required. If the first option is selected it should show a validation error as no value was selected.

I just followed Carl's directions, but I couldn't get it to actually treat the dropdown as required. Has anyone else had any problems?

If you are using Gravity Forms v1.4 then you would edit the drop down field, above the options of the drop down you would click the "show values" checkbox.

Now you would make the first option say something like "Select a Video" and then leave it's value blank.

Then for each of the other videos you would make sure you have a value filled in. You can duplicate the option name for the value. But they must have both.

Now make the field required.

What this will do is the first option has a label, but no value so it won't pass validation and will ask them to choose a video.

I'm having a contest for which band is shown live (an event).... They have each submitted a video, but I guess having prefilled the option with the first choice gives an unfair advantage to that video.

so how can I have a dropbox with
Video 1
Video 2
Video 3
Video 4
Video 5

and have the default entry beeing blank, but you *must* choose one of the video's...?
