Here is a great article from Joost de Valk on using GMail and SMTP with WordPress and Gravity Forms as well as how to improve reliability of email sent this way.

I just ran across this issue with a client "stuck" on Dreamhost.

Installing the Configure SMTP plugin took 15 minutes to set up and test with a Google Apps account. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/configure-smtp/

Gmail/Google Apps set-up info is pre-filled to make it even easier.

</hassle>

@ls41 This isn't a Gravity Forms issue. Gravity Forms isn't dependent on SMTP. Gravity Forms uses the WordPress mail function to send email. This is 100% entirely dependent upon your web servers ability to properly send the email.

Gravity Forms can only send email if your web server can send email. Your web server is what actually sends the email. Gravity Forms just asks your web server to send it. It's entirely dependent upon your web servers ability to do so.

That is how sending mail with PHP works. PHP doesn't send it. Your web server does, if your web server isn't setup to work properly then you need to do it via an SMTP server. Gravity Forms isn't an SMTP server, it's a forms plugin. We can't make your web server do something it isn't configured to do.

On most web sites, this isn't an issue. GoDaddy is the host that primarily has this problem and their hosting services are nothing but trouble. The second worst when it comes to web servers not sending email properly is DreamHost.

Who is your web host?

SMTP Plugin works, but the problem is From Email address is set to SMTP address, NOT the from address from the Contact form.

And I agree that Google Apps SMTP is set is such way.

Now the question is - why did I pay for a plugin which is depended on another plugin and which is turn depended on SMTP server works.

I'm going to try using Hosts SMTP server and see if that would fix the issue.

My situation reflects whats written in this post - http://www.gravityhelp.com/forums/topic/a-stoyy-about-email-notification-not-working

The form notification worked for me. What I would suggest doing is checking your spam box, and make sure the notification didn't get flagged as spam by GMail.

I created a test form on your site called Test Form.

Here is a screenshot of the notification I received via my GMail account: http://grab.by/9STM

Here is a screenshot of the entry that was created on your site from the form I submitted: http://grab.by/9STO

I read few other threads related to Email not working. Here is my situation.

1) Using SMTP Plugin
- Send Email via SMTP
- SMTP Host (smtp.gmail.com) 465
- SSL
- Authentication enabled

2) Test Email to gmail.com address works.

No notification is send when message is submitted through Contact Form in the blog.

3) Site Hosted at Dedicated Dreamhost server.

Email notification was working perfectly without using SMTP plugin. Stopped working after Gravity Form latest upgrade.

What should I do next?
