Have you tried just one day, a few records, to see if something is broken with the export function, or if it is a resource problem?

How many records are you trying to export? It sounds like the server is running out of resources, probably RAM. Try reducing the date range to get fewer records returned. If the export works with fewer records, then you might need to increase the RAM on your server.

One explanation of how to do it:
http://www.nerdgrind.com/increase-wordpress-and-php-memory-limit/
