Just read this thread where another user was experiencing this issue:

http://forum.gravityhelp.com/topic/post-images-not-added-to-media-library

He offers a quick fix. I've forwarded both of these threads on to the lead developer so after we can confirm this bug, we will fix it in the core.

Question - I am getting reports on our site that when people upload attachments through the Gravity Form it seems that if any of the submissions have a space in the file name, they fail to be found on the server. Is this a know issue and is there a fix for it?

Thanks!

@fdnews

No, I agree that it would be well worth $40 with image uploading and, seriously, if Carl does manage to integrate video comments into form submission, that would be worth much more again.

My question mark over the price is not so much about situations like yours, in which you have this specific need, but, rather, the much larger number of regular users, for whom this would be a less essential purchase; I was suggesting that post creation from forms is such a killer feature that it might, just about, justify the price for those more casual users but that images would seal the deal.

File upload with story submission is a huge deal for me. We run a web-only news site in Upstate NY (10 years old; one of the oldest independent hyperlocals in the country) and we run it on WordPress.

Other forms plugins, including the excellent CForms, don't allow submission to the content database.

We receive a ton of content each day -- 30 to 50 submissions -- and most come with photos.

I desperately need photo(s) upload with story submission, even if it means I have to go in to the draft and place the photos in the story and excerpt manually.

(By the way -- it should support caption as well. A photo lacks context without a caption.)

And re: donnacha, I understand that the overwhelming majority of WP plugins are free, and that's wonderful. But 40 bucks for a plugin that does as much as this one does is hardly excessive. It's fair, in my view. Believe me, I've asked plugin developers for quotes to build just the content submission part of what Gravity Forms does, and I've gotten quotes of over $1,000 each time.

Please, please, please build the photo and caption submission into GF very soon.

(I'm buying the plugin anyway, because I need its other features, such as autoresponder, but you'll make my year when you add this function in.)

Glad you like the idea, I think it could be awesome for things such as confirming the identity of the person submitting the form data i.e. they could be submitting an avatar photo of themselves and a short webcam video, seen only by the admin, would confirm that they were indeed the person in that photo.

In terms of seeing how the video commenting systems work, I particularly recommend Riffly, which has had far, far less publicity than Seesmic or Viddler, but which provides a far more straightforward widget, not requiring the user to login before recording and, also, site owners can choose between the free, ad-supported version (ads appear wihin the video screen, like YouTube) or a premium version in which no ads appear.

The have a WordPress plugin here:

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/riffly/

... and describe their API here:

http://riffly.com/api

I have no connection with Riffly but have had an interest in video commenting for quite a while and they are the closet to getting it right in technical terms.

That does sound like a very cool feature. I'll have to look into the video commenting services and see how we might be able to incorporate them into a form submission. Cool idea.

Good to know that you have ambitious plans, I hope that image uploads will be a high priority, I suspect it will be a very popular feature.

Talking of media, how hard would it be to integrate video commenting services such as Seesmic, Viddler and Riffly?

In the usual video commenting situation, the flash widget is inserted into the page design via a line of code, the user records a webcam message which is uploaded and the service inserts an identifying code into the comment field. Once published, that unique code is used to insert a video widget into the comment, ready to play that video.

I would be interested to know if Gravity Forms would be suited to an adaption of that process, in which the code returned is submitted as a hidden field and the video is rendered when the admin looks over the submissions?

That would be quite a feature.
