I am still happy to pay for great work and gravity forms is just that.</p> <p>That said I do intend to just purchase my own developer license. Functionality that works via an API (automatic updates, the add-on manager, etc.) is not GPL and requires a valid license key to access... as does support. So while the plugin code is GPL, some functionality is hosted as a service and not publicly released under the GPL. This is no different than services such as Automattic's VaultPress, PollDaddy, etc.</p> <p>If you are using Gravity Forms you should renew your license each year regardless of the GPL because you will not receive software updates otherwise and software updates are critical to the well being of a WordPress site. Just like you should always keep WordPress up to date, you should always keep plugins you utilize up to date.</p> <p>This is especially critical on client sites. If you are using this on client sites, we highly recommend that your clients purchase their own license. So before I take the plunge and purchase a developer license I would like to clarify is it fully GPL without exception? </p>
