Okay I'm going to report this for the sake of anyone else who finds themselves in this pickle of loosing forms after updating WordPress. i tried exporting the forms and reimporting with no luck. Used the Meta Recovery Tool which BTW is a plugin. For those who actually depend on written words, I found nothing that said that even from the download page.

I finally went back and found a DB backup that I knew was from before my updating to WP 3.4. Replaced the 8 tables in my current database with the 8 tables from the backup. My forms are restored! Yes, my forms were lost after updating to WordPress 3.4. Did the update cause that I can't prove that but it cannot be disproved either. Just sayin. PS: I still love GF.

The meta recovery tool can't hurt and it's easier than restoring the tables from a backup. It might work so I would try that first.

If you are not worried about the entries, then you can just replace all the wp_rg_ without consequence. Please make a backup of your database first in case that does not go well.

We'll get it sorted out.

Sadly, I don't have any entries in any of the forms that are important to me. Entries can start all over again.

The forms have been there long enough that I should have a back up of them. I probably have a copy of all my forms on my localhost and can export just the tables I need. If this is the case would you recommend I simply restore those 8 tables on my remote server? That is—rather than using the Meta Recovery Tool?

Thanks

I'm not sure what happened but if you take a backup now, you will at least preserve the state you're in right now before things possibly get worse.

If you have a backup from before WordPress was updated, you should be able to get the forms out of the backup. However, if you restore all the wp_rg_ tables you will lose any entries or changes made to those forms since the backup snapshot was taken. Don't restore the tables unless you know exactly what you will lose.

To use the meta recovery tool, download it, install like any other plugin, then look in your Forms menu and you will have a new item "Meta Recovery". Click that, then from the drop down select the form you want to try and recover, then click "Submit" and check the result. It's worth a shot but I don't think that will help in this case. I've never seen a WordPress update cause forms to disappear.

Sounds like the forms took a lot of time to create. It might be worth finding someone familiar with MySQL and phpMyAdmin to replace the data in the proper tables for you.

I can backup my database. I probably have db backups already. I use ManageWP and have them scheduled regularly. But I can also make one now.

I probably have a backup from before the update. Can I just dump the 8 gravity form (rg) tables and only re-import those 8 without the Meta Recovery Tool? Never dumped selected tables or imported specific tables. Is there any trick or does it just append my DB when I import an SQL file to an existing DB?

So I downloaded the meta recovery tool and opened it to look inside. How about some instructions? Seriously guys I'm asking for help. The tool by itself isn't much good without some instructions and the page where I got is said nothing. I still have no clue what to do.

FWIW, I updated to WP 3.4 for a large church site and the update broke the plugin that organized and displayed sermons. So while Gravity Forms is not Sermon Browser. I've had my share of plugins breaking with v3.4 this week. Never had a plugin break before.

Please make a database backup now if you have not already, before going any further.

Optimize or repair tables will not likely fix anything. The recommended Meta Recovery Tool can be downloaded from the bottom of this page:

http://www.gravityhelp.com/downloads/

Do you or your host have a backup of the MySQL database from before you upgraded WordPress?

Did you make any changes other than upgrading WordPress? Did you upgrade additional plugins?

It's unusual to lose forms like this with a WordPress upgrade, and you're probably right that they are still there.

PS: my database lists the following tables:

wp_rg_form_meta
wp_rg_form_view
wp_rg_lead
wp_rg_lead_detail
wp_rg_lead_detail_long
wp_rg_lead_meta
wp_rg_lead_notes

Is there something more I should do with these tables? Optimize or Repair tables?
