The issue was confusion over how the Multiple Choice field works. Multiple Choice is a single select field. This is the type of choice you would make on a Multiple Choice quiz or test. Checkboxes are multiple choice. You can select more than one. Radio buttons are a single selection. Checkboxes allow multiple choices, as you would expect checkboxes to do. Is that not your experience? It's worked for me just fine in the past.
