They're going to add this to the list of issues to be addressed in future versions. For example, I submitted 7084471212 as my phone number, and that is stored as (708)447-1212. I tried to submit 7084471212 again and it worked fine, even though no duplicates was marked. That's because (708)447-1212 does not match 7084471212. For now, please use a number field or plain text field.
