There is no problem using an SMTP server to send mail from your WordPress site. That server can live anywhere. Sounds like a configuration issue with the SMTP plugins you have tried. How about installing just one and configuring it and letting us know what the result of the test email is. We can work on just the problems with configuring that plugin.

To be clear, this has nothing at all to do with Gravity Forms. You need to have an SMTP plugin installed and properly configured before Gravity Forms (and WordPress in general) can send email through your SMTP server.

Hello All! First time posting here.

I have utilized Gravity forms many times on projects over the past year or so. Hands down the best form plugin I've tried.

Recently ran into an issue with two projects where the client wished to keep their email hosting separate from their site hosting and I haven't been able to push notifications from Wordpress to them when someone fills out a form. Tried various SMTP plugins with no success.

From what I can tell, it is all linked to the email being on a separate server. Even Gmail SMTP doesn't work when I give it a try. Any ideas?

(Side note: The Gmail authentication on Configure SMTP gives me a string of 535 errors. Double checked password a dozen times with no luck.)

Thanks for any and all advice!
Brad
