Ok, thanks Carl.

Maybe I'll try to modify it's behavior but it's currently not one of my top priorities :)

This is a jQuery UI Datepicker that is doing this. When you hit enter it populates the field with todays date. When the datepicker is displayed you are supposed to pick a date using the datepicker. If you hit enter, the jQuery UI Datepicker populates the field with the current date.

Did you hit enter after filling out the date field with 16.12.2011? Jumping to the next field with <tab> without using <enter> first, works.

I just tried it again, reloaded the page, clicking straight in the date field, entering any valid future date and hitting <enter> resets the displayed date to the current one.

Chrome 14.0.835.163 (stable, released today).

I'm not seeing this issue. When I enter 16.12.2011 in the field manually (not using the date picker) and then submit the form... it triggers validation on the other fields I didn't fill out but the date field still contains the value I entered. See this screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/bUyox.png

Thank you Carl for adding it so fast (although there has been a feature freeze for 1.6).

I've added a new date field to my form to test the new date format and took the option "Date chooser" ("Datumswähler"). Format: dd.mm.yyyy

It is possible to enter a date manually in this field but it isn't accepted after hitting enter.

E.g. I enter 16.12.2011 and after using enter the date jumps back to 16.09.2011 (this month).

Is this a bug in beta 3 or intended behavior?

We have added additional international date format options to the Date Field in Gravity Forms v1.6 Beta 3 which is now available. Here is a list of the date formats now supported by the Date Field:

dd/mm/yyyy

dd.mm.yyyy

yyyy/mm/dd

yyyy-mm-dd

yyyy.mm.dd

It's not that it's difficult, it's the fact that we prioritize features based on user demand and user impact.

Gravity Forms has been around for over 2 years now and has almost 200,000 sites using it. While I understand the option to have a different date format is important to you, this is the only forum thread i'm aware of that discusses it so it's not a feature that has been heavily requested.

We can try and include it in the 1.7 release. The 1.6 release already has a feature freeze as it's currently in beta testing.

So what are you supposing for all users in countries where the default date format is different from what you currently offer (and where drop down fields, calendar buttons or anything else isn't a viable option)?

Why is it so hard to add an option (default / per form) to let the user choose (type in) a custom date format (e.g. dd.mm.yyyy). This would solve all internationalization problems with date formats (where you want the user to enter a simple date in a field).
