Hi Carl. I've never used the more tag but when I want an excerpt sent in the RSS feed, I change the reading settings as Dana has, then the feed sends out the_excerpt instead of the_content. I've always done it like that, without the more tag so I was wondering if Dana is currently using the more tag in existing posts, but cannot in the posts made with Gravity Forms, or if there could be some workaround with the_excerpt vs the_content. Mostly, I just want to learn how it can be affected with the more tag, and I know it's not something that Gravity Forms has any control over.

It could also be a theme setting or even a plugin or something I've added to functions.php over the years. I can't recall right now.

Dana, to avoid diluting this thread, if you'd like, please email me at illinoisharley@gmail.com -thanks

@illinoisharley It sounds like their feed is only sending the contents of posts up to the MORE tag that can be used in WordPress... and since the Gravity Forms created post don't have the MORE tag in the body it shows the entire thing.

Dana, can you show me an example of this? Do you mean the RSS feed for your site shows the full content rather than the excerpt, but only if the post was created by Gravity Forms? I'm trying to understand this.

Thanks

That would be a great option. We have some categories set to members only and they get the whole post in email version, so having a read more option would be very cool.

Thanks for your response.

Currently this is not supported. We have no way of knowing where the more tag should be placed within the content.

But it is a good and we'll add it to the feature idea list. There may be a way to have an option so that you can insert the more tag after X number of characters which you can configure when setting up the field. But this will have to come in a future update.

The only way around this would be to moderate the posts that are being created and add the more tag where you want it to before publishing the post.

Hi,

I have noticed when the feeds/emails go out on your posts it show full feed, even though I have the reading settings as summary. Is there a way I can add a break in the content template of a post form to add a read more or break so that the emails go out as summaries and not full content?

Thanks,

Dana
