@jvgreene here's the latest from Carl Hancock. It's a little like reading tea leaves:

Sounds like it's getting close to a beta release.

It does not support PayPal Pro. That is planned for a future add-on, along with authorize.net.

Thank you! That helped me out a lot.

One other question, what does the PayPal integration support? PayPal Website Payments Standard, Pro, or both?

#1. Gravity Forms is planning an add-on for the future to accept other types of credit card payments, such as Authorize.net. With that add-on, you would not need a PayPal account, but your would need a merchant account with another credit card processor. That is planned for the future and not yet available.

Some businesses do not like to use PayPal because the customer is sent away from their site and to PayPal to complete the transaction. There's no money being left on the table. You would have to compare the rates and transaction costs between any company you have process your credit card payments.

#2. That is correct.

#3. Yes. With the PayPal add-on you can have a condition that must be TRUE before you send the visitor to PayPal. So, if you have a checkbox that says "Pay with PayPal?" and they check it, then you can send them to PayPal. If that is not checked (or maybe they have checked another method of payment, such as cash or check) then you do not send them to PayPal, and the entry and payment need to be handled manually as you describe.

Hope that information helps.

Hello,

I'm doing some research to help me decide if Gravity Forms is right for me and my client.

My client currently registers and receives payment from their customers for events that they run. In other words, they process credit cards from their physical establishment and they accept checks. They want to move this process to their new website. I have a few questions about this.

My first question is about PayPal itself, so hopefully you can help me out. I'm not terribly familiar with PayPal, and my client doesn't have an account just yet. I told them that the plugin I was looking into supported PayPal integration for payment and that they'd need to get a PayPal account to accept credit cards online. They were fine with this, but they expressed interest to still be able to accept credit cards online without going through PayPal.

Is there any reason they should need to or want to do this? Again, I'm not well versed on online payments and PayPal so I'm not really sure about the logistics. For instance, they process their own credit cards. Are they leaving any money on the table by connecting their bank account to PayPal and accepting money through it instead? Absolutely any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

Second question is again more about how PayPal functions. A user doesn't need to have a PayPal account to submit a payment to my client, right? When they get to the payment page they can either use a PayPal account OR simply enter their credit card info right?

My third and last question is more about the plugin itself and it's regarding checks. I believe that my client would still like to accept checks should their customers want to do that instead (and possibly even cash). When the customer is ready to submit the form, can they choose to "Pay by Check" or "Cash" instead of paying through PayPal? In doing so the form will be successfully submitted without payment, but on the backend it will show that the customer wants to pay in person with cash or check. My client can then be aware that the registration needs to be paid for and they can follow up with the customer about it. Is this possible?

Thank you for your help! I'm hoping to buy Gravity Forms soon.
