Kevin: I've scheduled some housekeeping tonight. "Shepherd Jim" being my test site I had a bunch of plugins activated which weren't being used . AND, the /plugins directory in my WP installation has even WAY MORE plugin subdir's.

I'm going to download and/or delete all of the plugin files that don't need to be "up there."

Thanks for those links! I'm also going to do some reading tonight.

I don;t know; I've done some hacks that might account for some of the slowness. That "Hatchtown Update" box on the home page http://www.shepherdjim.com/ is the latest blogpost I've made in the "Announcements" category -- neat way to update the landing page. And then if you go to the actual WP "Blog" posts in that "Announcements" category don't list.

Thanks again for the help and info.

Jim

Jim,

There's a lot going on that can slow down the site. It could be due to the number of plugins you're using, how you're calling scripts, or a variety of other things. Here a a few good posts to get you rolling. There are plenty of additional resources on the subject as well if you just dig around a bit.

http://themeplayground.com/2009/tutorials/for-wordpress-users/consolidate-plugins-speed-up-your-site/

http://www.wprecipes.com/compress-wordpress-output-and-speed-your-blogs-load-speed

http://yoast.com/speed-up-wordpress/

Of course, a big part could be your web hosting company. It's always another point to consider.

Best of luck.

Okay! This problem seems to have been solved ...or just gone away?

You're ALL right. I've now had success with MS IExplorer (hiss! boo!) AND then with FFox.

It may have been that I was testing the Re-Captcha in one browser window while I was logged into the WP Dashboard in another tab.

OR, it might be that I re-entered the Re-Captcha private and public keys being REAL careful that I didn't pick up any blanks when I was copying them prior to pasting into "Settings".

Kevin: I know what you're saying about REALLY SLOWLY. What can I do to speed up WordPress? I sometimes get so tired waiting for a page to update that I go off to another tab and come back later.

Carl makes a really good point about the connectivity. I did notice that the page loaded really slowly for me on both attempts.

Ditto, I submitted some tests also and it worked.

The reCAPTCHA functionality relies on an API with the reCAPTCHA hosted service. If for some reason your server couldn't communicate with the 3rd party service, it may act like the input was invalid because it was unable to validate with reCAPTCHA.

Jim,

I tried the form a couple of times from different browsers and was able to complete the captcha field and submit the form okay.

screenshot

Are you having trouble in one particular browser or just having no luck at all in any browser?

I signed up at ReCaptcha and entered the Pub and Priv Keys into Gravity Forms' Settings.

The ReCaptcha field shows up in the form on the webpage but I cannot enter a successful interpretation of the "code" ...not once.

Here's the URL -- http://www.shepherdjim.com/about
this is a test site so feel free to submit anything. I'm worried it's just ME having a problem for some reason.

Thanks! Jim
