David,
Thanks for the reply. With the help of the automatic login on registration thread I've found a solution I'm happy with.

jb510, making a seamless 2 form system for registration and then post submission is probably the best way to do this as jwmv mentioned.

I will have the developers look at this thread, but I think they'll agree.

In nearly the exact same scenario as above - user-registration with custom post type plug-in - I'm having some trouble.

I created the form so that it populates custom fields of a custom post type and everything works properly, but when I add the User-Registration functionality to turn the person submitting the form into the post author the registration works fine but prevents the custom fields from populating in the post.

So I'm getting one or the other...

I used Custompress by WPMU to create the custom fields, taxonomies, post type etc.

I think I can work around it by creating two forms 1) Registration 2) Post Submission form, but would rather have a clean, simple front-end experience for users. Any ideas on what might be going wrong?

Thanks,
JW

I think I figured this out.... I was thinking about it wrong. I just need to collect name/email using standard fields and feed those into a user profile via user registration. Then in the same form collect the rest of the info I want for the custom post type and I can even feed some of those fields back into User Meta for the user profile.

GF Rocks... too often I think "hmm... I bet it can't do that...." only to discover it can.

Is it possible to collect an email address and use it both for populating a custom post type custom field (contact email) and use it to create a user account at the same time?

I'm using GF, User Registration Add-on and Gravity Forms + Custom Post Types. The form is a length one that creates a business listing (custom posttype) and I'd also like to create a user at the same time that owns that listing as a contributor/subscriber role.
