There are cases where you want a more informal tone and cases where you want it more formal. In the Netherlands for example we have two forms for the English "you", a casual "jij" and a more formal, polite "u" (in German: Du and Sie). This is the case in many languages. Then you also have customers who have special wishes for certain translations. So in my opinion there can never be "One Perfect Translation That Covers Them All". That's why I always like to have the .po files of the plugins I use.</p> <p>I don't follow your argument that people would not push translations back to you if they have the .po files. In fact, I think the opposite is true. I for example would correct mistakes or improve translations if I had the .po file. I would not make a whole new translation of all 1500 strings if I had to start from scratch, unless no translation existed for my language at all.
