Custom Post Types - Automatic Post Compostion Forms with CPT posts

  1. We are using the new custom post types in wordpress 3 and required composition forms for adding new CPT posts . Has any solution or plan been devised for doing so using the Post Fields that are currently supported ?

  2. Currently custom post field support isn't a built in feature in the form builder. It is under development and is currently planned for the 1.3.14 release.

HOWEVER it is possible to use custom post types now via our API hooks and some custom PHP you would add to your themes functions.php file to interact with Gravity Forms.

    See this thread:

    http://forum.gravityhelp.com/topic/add-a-form-to-create-a-new-custom-post-type

You can also search for custom post types and custom taxonomies or custom taxonomy and find other posts on this subject.

  3. Excellent support - speedy response and 100% relevant. Hope fully API hooks should solve. Thanks Carl

How are you guys going for 1.3.14? Have a client wanting to set up some events postings using The Events Calendar plugin and would be great to give him a timeline on when I will be able to set up his form.

I sorta don't feel like messing in the functions.php myself if I don't have to :)

  5. We have changed course due to the complexity of what we want to do to make Custom Post Type and Custom Taxonomy support as powerful as possible. It won't fit within the existing UI of the form builder so we are developing it as an Add-On.

1.3.14 will have some Post Field enhancements, but it won't involve Custom Post Types. We are now going to handle Custom Post Types via an advanced add-on that is going to be extremely powerful and allow you to have complete control over the posts created (ALL post data, including Post Body formatting, etc.).

Development on this add-on has already begun, but I can't give you a timetable as it needs to be further along before I can do so. What I can tell you is that it is KILLER. :)

Awesome to hear about this new addon in development. Currently I end up spending more time having to custom configure gravity custom fields on my customer sites than just about any other task. This will really help to speed up development time for me.

Really looking forward to this one.

Anointed -- is this something you do on a regular basis? Sounds like it is. Are you available for hire? Let me know a website link if you are..

Reading PHP and creating custom fields is killing me and I need help when it comes to customising these forms. It would be good to know if I could get some specialist help when required. Let me know..

  10. @mmtrav If Anointed doesn't check back on this thread or is unavailable, another person you can look to for custom work who has extensive experience with Gravity Forms customizations is David Smith. His web site is http://www.ounceoftalent.com. He does minor and major Gravity Forms customizations.

Yes, I highly recommend David for this. He is the one that wrote the initial code for me. Not only did he provide the code, but we spent a few minutes on skype where he explained everything going on. He even went as far as to leave all the print functions within my code, so I just un-comment them when I setup a new site, find the id# then recommend out the lines.

My experience in working with David was hands down the best that I have ever had with a developer, and believe me I have hired many people over the years.
