Gravity Forums License

Os I have been looking at form plugins for WordPress to use on my and my clients sites and so far I am really liking gravity forms. I am confused though about the license.

    According to http://www.gravityforms.com/terms-and-conditions/

"Gravity Forms is licensed under the GNU general public license"

But I've read statements elsewhere that imply only the PHP code is GPL and that CSS, and images you have chosen to restrict via a proprietary license.

Now I am not looking to change how you do business but I only use GPL products on my and my clients sites. So before I take the plunge and purchase a developer license I would like to clarify is it fully GPL without exception?

Just a friendly little bump as I am still waiting for clarification on this.

    Thank you.

  3. The plugin code is GPL. Functionality that works via an API (automatic updates, the add-on manager, etc.) is not GPL and requires a valid license key to access... as does support. So while the plugin code is GPL, some functionality is hosted as a service and not publicly released under the GPL. This is no different than services such as Automattic's VaultPress, PollDaddy, etc.

If you are using Gravity Forms you should renew your license each year regardless of the GPL because you will not receive software updates otherwise and software updates are critical to the well being of a WordPress site. Just like you should always keep WordPress up to date, you should always keep plugins you utilize up to date.

This is especially critical on client sites. If you are using this on client sites, we highly recommend that your clients purchase their own license. Clients will not have access to receive support directly from us if they use your license AND if you choose not to renew your license it leaves your clients out to dry in the process.

While you can use your own Developer License on client sites if you choose, we highly recommend developers have their clients purchase their own license for the reasons above.

Thanks for that clarification. I will happily purchase a developer license now, as I make it a point to only use GPL products. I am still happy to pay for great work and gravity forms is just that.

That said I do intend to just purchase my own developer license. It is in conjunction with WordPress sites I already host so my customers are already used to coming to me with any support needs and I defiantly plan to keep purchasing the upgrades.
