I LOVE Gravity Forms - BUT Why Does it Take So Long for New Payment Addons?

First off, thank you kindly for your hard work and I cant imagine how hard it must to manage such a big project like Gravity Forms. Thank you for all your hard work. This is not a rant, but just burst of frustration with wanting to know what is happening and how we can get the payment addons that we all want.

I don't understand why it takes YEARS (literally) to add features that so many people are asking for. People are looking for better payment integration using the big name options such as Paypal PRO, Authorize.net, Google Checkout, Stripe. I would be more than willing to contribute some extra cash to the table to get these addons developed and made available. It seems strange to charge Gravity Form plugin customers amount X when you should be charging amount X+n to make these addons a reality. I dont know what is going through Gravity Forms development team's mind. Are you guys too busy, underfunded, think that these payment addons are not in high demand? I promise you they are. I bet you could collect $5000 in one week to help with development in donations to push all these addons into reality.

Wootheme's woocommerce is able to create all of these payment addons in a matter of weeks. They have like 25 payment processor addons now.

  2. Amen. I'm a huge fan of Gravity forms, I hold an active Developer License, and program custom solutions on top of Gravity Forms all the time.

I want to point out that the Gravity Forms code is VERY good, and very complete. Clearly they take a very careful and thorough approach to code things the right way, complete with hooks, filters, etc. Their code is bug-free. Special thanks for the PayPal subscription effort - it's very thorough and useful.

The quality of Gravity Forms has generated a community of people who love GF and want to see it expand. There's so much more it can do! I want to mirror strid3r's comments and urge the Gravity Forms developers to "go big" with this software. WooCommerce is a great example of a company finding that their product is gold and working to expand it rapidly.

Thank you for everything Gravity Forms, and let's see this Authorize.net plugin hit the streets soon, and more to follow.

  3. This is very frustrating... especially since I received a reply about 2 weeks ago regarding the Authorize.net add-on becoming available last week. Which it did not. Then now as I follow up to try and get a more accurate timeframe... I get no response!!

These payment gateways are truly needed, and while I want to give GF a more prominent position in our deployments (to simplify for our clients).. I feel that Formstack is just that much more superior in many ways.

Im starting to wonder what the $200 yearly developer license money is going to. Things are starting to dry out around here.

  6. Wow. For people that claim they love Gravity Forms and what we do so much you guys sure are a negative bunch. Out of curiosity, do you guys even follow release announcements via the Gravity Forms blog or our Twitter stream?

Let's see what has gone on this month...

Yesterday we made the Gravity Forms Authorize.Net Add-On available as a public beta release after an extensive private by request testing period. It is available in the Add-On manager.

Today we made the Gravity Forms Signature Add-On available as a public beta release after an extensive private invite only testing period. It is available in the Add-On manager.

Next week we will be releasing Gravity Forms v1.6.3 via automatic update. Don't let the version number fool you, there are some powerful new features in this release. Major enhancements to conditional logic and the Post Category field that open the door to all kinds of cool implementations. We easily could have called it v1.7 but that isn't how we are versioning things.

This month also saw feature updates to the User Registration Add-On, PayPal Add-On and FreshBooks Add-Ons. Just before that there was a major update to the AWeber Add-On that implemented an entirely new API and a major update to MailChimp that introduced MailChimp Group support.

The Gravity Forms PayPal Pro Add-On is in development and nearing beta status. An Add-On for Stripe is planned to begin development after that.

But apparently things are dry around here. You pissed your $200 away. Oh wait, renewals are 50% off so it's actually $99.50 per year after the first year. Minor technicality.

Now that the Authorize.Net Add-On is good to go we have a framework to now create add-ons for other payment gateways. The PayPal Add-On was not a good framework to use because it doesn't work the same way as most payment gateways.

The comparisons to WooCommerce and it's many payment gateways shows a complete lack of understanding of the difference between the two products and how payment gateways come into play from an integration standpoint

You want to know why it's so easy for WooCommerce to create payment gateways so quickly? Because it's a much simpler integration. With WooCommerce the checkout process is predefined, it doesn't vary, it doesn't change. Integration in that situation is very easy. It's a situation where you can just drop in a new API.

There is a LOT more complexity involved in integrating custom forms created with Gravity Forms with payment gateways and allowing extensive configuration and integration with other Add-Ons so everything works together in a cohesive manner. There are a lot more options and configuration settings for users to customize how things work with their form and the gateway to suit their needs. Not to mention properly handle recurring payment situations, which WooCommerce does not do.

Our team works extremely hard. We don't view adding new features as some sort of feature war where we have to rush out new features before somebody else does. We don't rush features. We put a lot of thought and planning into how we implement new features and Add-Ons. We treat Gravity Forms like a world class product.

We recently hired a new employee who will be managing support, which will free up one of our developers from having to contribute as much to support. It will give us additional bandwidth. Unfortunately he won't be able to begin until April 1, but that's the price you pay for hiring the right people.

I'm going to be perfectly honest with you. No need to sugar coat it. Unless it wasn't extremely obvious, which I know it was, some of the comments in this thread royally pissed me off knowing how hard we bust our ass on this product.

All this and I didn't even mention that we are also in the process of developing an entirely new product (Gravity Charge) which will also have extensive Gravity Forms integration.

I am a GF development license user. I would also like to point out that due to the great number of hooks available in gravity forms, you can easily develop your own add-ons. If you are willing to pay someone to do it as you guys have stated, just go to elance.com, post what it is you need, and put a price on it. Someone will be willing to do your custom integration. You are only frustrated because you love GF and you want it to work the way that you want it to work! So instead of complaining that the dev team isn't working on feature X, the one you need right now, feel free to go get it developed for you, see what the process is really like.

  8. Go Carl! I'm a developer license user, and I don't post much here, but I stumbled across this post while looking for any news of a Stripe.com add-on. So, because the squeaky wheel seems to have gone off the tracks here, allow me to just squeak a little bit in the other direction (wow, I don't believe I have ever mangled a metaphor quite that badly before).

The pace of development of Gravity Forms is impressive, from any rational standpoint. And while I sympathize with the desire to have new payment processing add-ons nownownow, I certainly don't understand the attitude. As thegmann says, if you can't wait, write it yourself.

Keep up the great work, the quiet ones out here are thrilled.

  9. Plain and simple: Carl, you and your team rock. Thank you.

And I'm definitely interested in Stripe.com! So yes I'm anxious, but I so appreciate how well Gravity Forms works. I will be patient.

  10. Get it off your chest Carl, now forget and ignore the negative posts and carry on exactly as you have been. Gravity Forms IS a world class product and for every 1 person who pisses you off there are a 1000 who love your (and your teams) work.

Bug free, clean code releases are way better than rush jobs.

Saying that.. come on man, official PayPal Pro !

Gravity Charge I know will be pretty amazing just like gravity forms. I want to say more power to you guys. I think with the thorough approach to coding these plugins you should be able to build your own addons as someone has pointed out and also maybe pay a developer if you dont have the skillset to pull it off. Developers should love to work with gravity forms.

Gravity Charge- well..................... - I just cannot wait ;)

At the risk of sounding "negative":

We adore the polish of GravityForms but find are unable to recommend the product to most of our new business because of the lack of payment options.

Stripe has gained an unbelievable amount of popularity and traction. Clients are allergic to PayPal.

Hey guys, I needed a Stripe add-on for a couple of client projects so I coded one up. It only processes one-time payments right now but I should be done with the subscriptions tomorrow. It's not heavily tested and it works for me, but feel free to open an issue or pull request if you come across anything. It requires latest version of Gravity Forms and PHP5.3 (even though it worked for me on a 5.2 server).

I'm seeing more clients ask for Google Checkout (now Google Wallet) and fewer wanting PayPal. Many websites that use PayPal would like to dump it for other payment systems.

Adding Google Wallet would be a nice enhancement to Gravity Forms.

  16. I think this would be a great oppotunity to have a market where developers can create addons based on the requests they see here and sell those addons similar to how WooCommerce does it and Studiopress does it.

GF would always provide core functionality and keep adding to it, so sometimes something that a dev is selling might get rolled into the core, but that is the risk they would take. Some developers if it is an easy addon could offer it for free in the addon marketplace.

There is a lot of functionality I would like to see added to GF and I understand that a small development team can't do everything. We who bought developer access means just that, we can develop on top of that.

I for one would happily pay for an addon that somehow allowed a user to edit responses after submission. And I hear GF is working on that for a later version which will be awesome.

  17. It's all relative - I pay my $100 a year for a developer license.
For the amount of sites I use it on and the time I've saved that equates to something minuscule like $0.031 per project.

Yes, I would love to see 'more progress/ add-ons/ options' but am quite happy with the way things are going.

Just be thankful that GF aren't charging a subscription which would mean that the moment you stopped paying you lose everything.
