Image upload progress bar

  1. I know that this feature has already been requested, but I can't find an open forum post to add my support for this feature to, so I've created a new one. I bought gravity forms specifically to allow users to upload images to be printed on showercurtains, and am using it in conjunction with woocommerce, but the file size required to get good resolution takes too long to upload without a progress bar and users are leaving the page before getting to the checkout page. A progress bar is a must, and a thumbnail preview would be nice too. Is the progress bar coming out anytime soon?

I haven't heard of any big media management changes happening to Gravity Forms lately, but it is on our list of things to do and we will work on it more as soon as we have the resources available to do so. All my best!

  3. I agree wholeheartedly with Jacob. A progress bar is a MUST. The whole reason I (like many other users) are using Gravity forms is that it allows end users to upload and create posts without requiring our (admin) intervention. Gravity forms upload is not instantaneous, even when uploading a very small image (200k or so) and since there is absolutely no progress bar, spinner, or other indication that things are working, users get really impatient. They end up clicking the button again (and again and again) which causes multiple posts. Admin then has to go back an fix all the junk.

A progress bar shouldn't be something development is thinking is a 'nice touchy feeley, non important bonus that we'll get around to when we have time'. Any code that uploads anything to anywhere includes a progress indicator as a necessity.
We've been requesting this over a year now. I'd really like some attention.
Multiple uploads means the process is no longer automated. Gravity Forms could be saving us all a lot of time and effort.
    Thank you.

  4. Thank you for sharing your thoughts Patrick. I'll make sure the development team sees your comments.

As a workaround, if you want to ensure users don't click submit again, you can use this code to disable the submit button after the first submission: http://pastebin.com/TR1Lu7Tb

I know that's not a solution for the progress bar issue, but maybe it will help you until a progress indicator is implemented.

  5. I would like my voice added to this request as well. It's not a matter of users trying to re-click submit on my end, but rather users just getting frustrated wondering why the page spinner just keeps spinning and then giving up prematurely.

Can we get an ETA? Can we see it on a project roadmap so we know you're not just saying "someday" and just putting it out of your minds. I know this issue has been brought up many times over the years based on a little google searching.

    Thanks!

I'm sorry, but we don't put out product roadmaps or ETA's anymore as our development is influenced by too many external factors and we would hate to set expectations we can't meet. The original plan was to integrate our system into WordPress' own media management controls, but they recently just re-did them yet again for the 3.5 release. Media management is important to us, and we will look into it as soon as we are able. I will say that we have a full slate of cool stuff for Q1 of this year, but as far as I know, it doesn't include working on a new file upload utility.

  7. @Chris Hajer - In which file does that code go?

@David Peralty - File Uploads aside, the plugin is great, and no doubt the stuff coming out this quarter will be awesome. Just looking forward to the upload progress bar. At the very least, give us an option to popup a message saying "uploading" in the interim while you integrate gravity forms into Wordpress' own media management control. It doesn't even have to be accurate, just something to reassure clients uploading files through GF that their files are going somewhere.

  8. I keep checking back month after month hoping for a progress bar, it's the one thing I've been hankering for. I've been using gravity forms for a few years now as it integrates brilliantly with Cart66. I'm surprised someone hasn't already built a plugin to do it.

Jacob, printed shower curtains sound ace!

  9. @AWMoore, that code goes into your current theme's functions.php.

  10. @AWMoore, you can simulate a fake progress indicator by using the method Kevin Flahaut details here: http://www.gravityhelp.com/forums/topic/add-a-file-upload-progress-bar#post-6584

  11. I'd just like to add my backing to this as well, it's been talked about for quite a while without any progress. We run an Online Letting Agents in the UK and all the properties are uploaded via the site with up to 8 images and we use Gravity Forms (multi page) with Cart66 integration to do it.

We're currently using the fake upload bar but it's not great on multi-page forms (especially when we have a few of them), I have to strongly echo what a few others have said already that this is almost a must have now. This is now the only major issue we have left on our site and might force us to move to a different way of uploading properties and I really really don't want that pain... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add upload progress bar(s) yesterday! Love Gravity and really don't want to move, surely this is a reasonably easy fix for you guys that would make a massive difference to your users who are using GForms for uploads.

  14. I would like to add my voice to this as well. I've been inquiring about such a feature since first using GF (now just renewed our license for a second time).

    Cheers,

+1 for plupload integration and a progress bar.

File upload smoothness is 50% of my reason for buying GF
... the other 50% being general awesomeness :)

This feature is important to my client.

+1 here as well. I'm building a photo sharing site and would very much like to use GF for this.

I totally agree with plupload integration and a progress bar. Hope to see it in the near future. Can you tell us at least if you are considering implementing this feature - and when.

  19. I am looking for this right now as well. +1 more for the progress bar. And yes I have seen the fake progress indicator. Very nice, but not exactly what I need.

  21. +1 for this feature as this is common sense. We know you guys have a list of to do going on but priority-ness need to be taken into consideration too. +1 for rocket team too.

    +1 For Progress.

Bonus if it can integrate with Amazon S3 or some other cloud based storage service. I need this bad if anyone is listening and wants to sell me an addon.

  27. Really need an upload progress bar.
I can even hire someone but i need it.

  28. +1 for me. I will be moving away from GF soon for some functions, as the lack of a progress bar or similar indicator is too disruptive to the users experience, which in turn creates headaches for me.

Nope, nothing new on this currently. If we make a change regarding this, you'll see a post about it on our blog, and our Facebook page. All my best!
