License question

  1. Hi,

I'm working on a client site. They need your plugin. Here are my options as I understand them:

    1) I buy a single site license and set the client up. Once I hand off the site to the client they can get updates for one year, but they don't have any support since I bought the license. So if they want something changed either I have to do it or they have to figure it out on their own.

    2) The client buys the site license. I download and install the plugin, but I can't get support because they bought the license.

    3) I buy either a five site license or developer license. Everything is the same as option 1 except I get five or unlimited sites.

My feeling on developer licenses is this, if I charge the client the cost of the plugin, what is the benefit of buying the developer license? I charge the client so much for developing their site. If they want or need features that require a premium plugin, I let them know in advance and tell them how much it's going to cost. That way they control their costs. I save the money on a developer license.

Can someone shed more light on this for me? I don't really have the money right now for a developer license.

    Thanks,
    Emilio

  2. The benefit of the Developer License is you can use it on an unlimited number of sites and you get access to all current and future add-ons for free.

Only the license holder gets support access as you pointed out. So if you don't want to provide support to your clients for their form related questions then having them purchase their own license makes sense.

Developer Licenses aren't necessarily for developers doing client work, they are for anyone that needs to be able to use it on a lot of different sites and who intend on using the add-ons. Some of them do use their license on client sites, and some require their clients purchase their own license. It's a personal preference as to what you do as far as clients go.
