Mail Chimp Groups length of name

  1. Hi
I've spent days trying to resolve an issue with Group subscription - I could subscribe a new user to Mail Chimp using Gravity Forms but could not get all their group preferences to work.
After hours of messing around and trying different things, I think I have narrowed it down to the length of the Group name - there must be a limit on this?

So, for example, my original question:

"Would you like to receive email updates from [blah]?"
which added the person to the group: "Yes! Please send me news on [blah]"

...did not work. It seems to be the length, not the punctuation.

    Hope that helps someone.

  2. What is the actual name of your group? I will add a group with the same name and see if I can recreate the problem.

  3. Thanks!

    The group name was originally:
Yes! Please send me news on events, teaching etc
    It now works as:
yes I would like to receive regular info

  4. I can confirm this problem.

I was able to use "Yes! Please send me news on events, teaching etc" as my group title. I used a group name of "testing group" and it worked fine. However, if I used "Yes! Please send me news on events, teaching etc" for the Group Name (the subcategory of the Group Title) I was not subscribed. I will let the developers know.

Sounds like you have found a work around for now?

  5. Thanks for your attention Chris. Yes, I can live without punctuation OK!

I was pleased to finally discover that this was *all* that it was... I had spent hours trying to discover what was wrong! (A little dance of celebration when it did work!)

  6. So the issue was actually the comma being used in the group name. When MailChimp sees the comma, it expects the string to be a list of groups (comma-delimited). I have updated the code to handle this and that change will go out with the next public release of MailChimp.
