Paypal - Recurring Payments/Subscriptions

    Hi,
I've loved using Gravity Forms and have a question about the Paypal add-on. I searched around the forums, but don't believe this question was brought up as of yet.

My company will be selling websites, and would like to use Gravity Forms as the initial sign-up/payment processor for this. So, each client that signs up would enter in their standard name, email, etc, but we'd like them to be able to sign up for "options" for their website. So, let's say a blog was $50, ecommerce was $200, etc. From there, we'd like the total that is sent to Paypal to be their options plus a "base" amount, which for example would be $500. So, the total sent to Paypal would be $750 in this example.

Once they pay that amount in paypal, we'd like to be able to setup a recurring/subscription billing cycle of $50 per month, but wouldn't want the actual recurring part to start for 4 months.

Do I have any options here with Gravity Forms for this? I'd REALLY love to use Gravity Forms, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!

  2. Currently the only way I can see this being possible is by using the PayPal Trial Period option on Subscriptions. You'd set the trial period price to $500 and then configure the trial period for 4 months. So after the trial period then the recurring payment would kick in. Then just use fields for the recurring portion of the subscription.

Gravity Forms v1.6 and the newer version of the PayPal Add-On also support bundling all product fields used on the form to create the subscription in PayPal. Earlier versions require you to select only one product field.

    Hi Carl,
I really appreciate the quick response. I think I understand what you are saying - would the actual "trial period" and "recurring" payment be something I would setup in Paypal or Gravity Forms (in a configuration for the Paypal element)? I realize that's kind of a basic question, but I haven't actually played around enough with the Paypal Add-on (partly because I don't own it) :) to know exactly how that works. Would this be using a Paypal Standard or Business account?

    To confirm, I would:

    - Setup a trial period in Gravity Forms/Paypal to last for 4 months and be that "$500".
    - Setup a recurring bill that would kick-in after the trial period has ended, automatically charging the customer $50 per month.

Again, thanks for the quick response (I know it's Friday, so extra props)

  4. With the Gravity Forms PayPal Add-On you don't setup anything in PayPal itself. All the setup is done in your form and in the Gravity Forms PayPal Add-On itself.

    - You'd setup a trial period using the Gravity Forms PayPal Add-On when creating a PayPal Feed.

    - You'd then setup the forms for selecting the items that impact the recurring price. You'd do this using the Product Field and Option Fields. You must have a Product Field, Option Fields do not work without at least one Product Field. If you have multiple Product Fields then when you add an Option Field you have to tell it which Product Field it is associated with.
