Question about differences in licensing & renewal

  1. I'm a happy Gravity Forms customer with a Developer License who's starting to use it in my client projects.

My question is about your licensing - In your pricing page, the Sites allocated is "the number of sites the support and upgrade license is eligible for".

As I understand it, this means that my Developer License allows me to use my License key on multiple sites. These sites can get access to the automatic upgrades and I can ask for official support for these sites here in the forum.

Does this mean that I can give my clients my License key? What's to prevent them from sharing it?

If not mistaken, under your new payment scheme I have to renew my license yearly. So if I've already deployed Gravity Forms on more than 5 client sites I can't downgrade?

    Appreciate your answers. Thanks

  2. You can use your license key on client sites. That is your call if you want to do that or have clients purchase their own license. We have customers that do both.

Just keep in mind that if you no longer have a relationship with that client, they will not have a way to get support as the license key is registered to you. So at that point in order to receive support they would have to purchase their own.

The license key is hashed in the WordPress database and uses a password field on the Settings page so it isn't visible. Even if it was visible, it's hashed. So only the person entering the license key knows what it is. Even if they look int he database they won't know what it is.

If you want to continue receiving support and updates after 1 year you will need to renew your license. Renewals will be at 25-50% off the standard price, so it won't be full price. We will launch a renewal system next year when the first renewals start to approach the 1 year mark. If you renew you would want to do so for the number of sites you are running at a minimum.

  3. Thanks Carl for the really quick answer. Actually I upgraded before 1 May so I think I've got lifetime Developer support. Is there a way I can check that to be sure?

Actually the trouble I'm experiencing at the moment using Gravity Forms on client sites is that the client keeps asking me how to do this and that with the plugin. Your documentation requires a login which I don't want to share with clients.

Can I request that the documentation be made public? I also think it will be a great pre-sales resource if prospects get to see how the plugin works before they buy it.

Let me know if I should submit an official request for this somewhere. Thanks

  4. If you purchased before May 1 you are good to go.

We are currently working on overhauling the documentation. We will see what we can do to make some sort of documentation available to clients of our customers. It's tricky as documentation is part of support. But we will look into it and see if there is anything we can do to make it easier.

  6. Just wanted to add: documentation would also have been helpful to me as well in determining when to buy. It's something I often look at as a signal of completeness in software.

  7. Any updates on making documentation public?

  8. We're not planning on making the documentation public at this time. The documentation and support channels are reserved for active support license holders.
