WARNING: For all developers, this following auto message is automatically embedded in signature portion that goes out to your each and every client-end's notification:

"Your Gravity Forms License Key has expired. In order to continue receiving support and software updates you must renew your license key. You can do so by following the renewal instructions on the Gravity Forms Settings page in your WordPress Dashboard or by clicking here."

This is sneaky unsolicited branding, which I was never informed. This is REALLY BAD for developers who trusted your products and purchased "developer" license and if you have not guessed it, REALLY BAD in par of any customer satisfaction whatsoever! And I hope the founders or current Gravity Forms owners reads this.

While I am not the person that decided it should function this way, I work for Gravity Forms, and wanted to respond to your message.

Yes, you are correct, when the license expires, all Admin notifications (not user notifications) include that message. Why would we do this? Because people change e-mail addresses, they forget they need to renew, and then they are left with an older version of Gravity Forms which could lead to many more complicated issues down the road.

The worst part is when we have a person e-mail us, saying that their developer installed the software and now it doesn't work. We can't help that person because they don't have their own license, and they ask us to overlook that because their developer has left them in the lurch.

This isn't sneaky, this isn't underhanded. It is requiring developers who run around and install the license everywhere to be held accountable for renewing the license. This is a strong reminder to site owners that didn't know what they were being given information that they might not have otherwise had.

If you don't want this message to appear, but don't want to renew, simply remove the key from the settings, it will then have nothing to query, and it won't send that message in the Admin notification any longer.

Again, I want to stress that this message ONLY goes to the the Admin notification e-mail address and if you chose not to renew, you can remove the API key, and run Gravity Forms unlicensed and this message will not appear.

Lastly, I'm not a founder, or owner, just a long time fan that was recently hired by rocketgenius, and while I understand your frustration and worry, I can also understand the business sense in this decision, as I've fielded hundreds of inquiries about developers not informing clients that the license would need to be renewed to continue to receive updates.

I hope this helps in some way... All my best.

Please, no need for sugar-coated explanation. GF's admin, under "Forms" it screams red about the annoying renewing license... not to forget, the yellow update-banners in the dashboard. Client's such as me, who have already opted-out by not renewing for "updates" and who don't want to keep on spending money every year to "renew" license; this is just unwanted branding solicitation to our clients. There is no need to have this, period!

I understand and appreciate you feel that way, and while I'd love to continue to defend the decision, there is no point. You've already made up your mind about it, and I doubt there is anything I could say that would make you happy.
