Seriously? No Justin Tadlock?

  1. One of the key bits of information I would like to read is a post made by Justin Tadlock with regards to membership.

Apparently I don't have the right product to view the post? Really? Is the post layered in hints and guides about paypal, mailchimp, or some other feature only in the developer version?

Sorry to sound choked but, frankly I am. Justin Tadlock is a rare 'humble' genius with regards to WordPress and, as a new user to Wordpress, Gravity Forms, and Members plugin I devour anything this man has to say.

Please allow me to read his post.

    Thanks

  2. Thanks for the kind words. ;)

The post I made here is for a little guidance. Right now, I'm experimenting with the idea of building a membership-based site with Members and GF. Nothing is set in stone just yet.

If it turns out that I can do what I plan, I'll definitely write a blog post on my experience using the two plugins together like this.

  3. Good to know. I'm actually doing something similar, though much simplified.

I'm basically just making a Job board, but it does require user logins and profiles. The largest hindrance I face is not being able to pre-populate a form using GF based on User Login easily.

I'm hittin that part of development soon, though I will be trying this approach for the 'profile'

Create form in GF, set it to recieve variables if any exist. Using the same form I can check (via link when user clicks on "update profile") by setting up a basic query via user_ID which will then give access to all the data to populate the fields with.

Then I either create new, or update current.

In WordPress version 3+ the easiest way I can see to accomplish this is to create custom posts via gravity forms. GF doesn't track post authors any other way at present.

To make the process easier for other users the GF team could add custom post field types, as they did with the advanced fields (first name | last name, etc)

  4. hmm. sorry to add another post here, but something came to mind:

It would be good if a custom login form could be created with a base of all the database fields available (nice name, website url, etc) while still retaining the email password feature. Allow a show/hide feature to choose what fields remain visible to the end user.

Seal that section as a predefined form. (click from side bar, that form appears)

They could then program a conditional that asks if that is all that needs to be saved. (form field count, as an array). If the array count is greater then the predefined amount then it does two things:

Saves to wp_user and wp_user_meta for the predefined form, and then the admin created form would then create a custom post based on the additional fields added.

So..custom login default, with the option to extend it with a custom form. That would make a membership much easier to start.

  5. @urmedia, if you're posting everywhere else in the forums, you should be able to read Justin's post as well. There aren't any special permissions required there. If you're having access issues just let us know and we'll be happy to look into it.

  7. LOL. I wasn't commenting about the fact that you're posting, I simply was just making the point that you SHOULD have access to Justin's post as well. We'll take a look at it and see what's up.

  9. @kfawcett @urmedia The reason why you guys cannot view Justin Tadlock's post regarding the PayPal Add-On and the Membership plugin is because his post was created in the PayPal Add-On Support Forum.

Add-On Support Forums are only accessible to customers who have access to Gravity Forms Add-Ons. Add-Ons are only available to Developer License holders.

This is why you are currently unable to access and view his post.

  10. Seems rather silly, considering. I'll keep a close eye on Justin's blog instead.

  11. @urmedia What's silly? It's simple - If you purchase a developer license, then you can get access to all of the related content - that includes the threads discussing add-ons, etc. You're welcome to upgrade and have access to everything.
