Share items you voted for with facebook and twitter?

So, I'm working with someone on creating a voting page for Best of the city. As part of the SEO, we were asked to include share buttons on the results page that allow someone to share the items they voted for. We've been using addThis and the script for it is a couple lines of js. My php knowledge is limited but I don't mind having to customize the plugin and I do have resources. Is there an efficient way to do this?

  2. Can you post a link to the page on your site where the poll is currently embedded?

    Hi Chris,

So I worked with another developer and he helped me place the script. I'm just concerned if we update this plugin that I won't be able to put this back in. This is the form where it's being used.

After you vote, the item which was voted for has a share button that lets you tweet or Facebook post your answer.

  4. If you did not modify any Gravity Forms files, your changes should survive an upgrade. Can you show us how the scripts or functionality were added?

Yeah, we did modify the polls.php file slightly. I saved the code so I could put it back in but I'd rather find a way to achieve this without having to modify the plugin files. Someone recommended using hooks?

  6. Let us know what sort of modifications you made to the plugin and maybe we can help you. What is the end result you're looking for? Social sharing buttons on the poll results page?

Basically if you vote on an item on this page, a share button appears under the result and for twitter it will automatically add the text of what you voted for. I can also provide the code we added to get them there. It's only a couple lines.

  8. Please do post the code at pastie.org or pastebin.com, or if it's private, please email it to chris@rocketgenius.com. A diff of the original plugin file and your modified file would be best if you have it. Thank you.

  10. I don't know of a way to do what you are doing without modifying the plugin files as you have done. You're going to have to maintain your changes going forward.

No problem, I don't really mind maintaining it as best I can. Thank you for you time!
