Site Address and Username Conflict?

  1. I'm using the action "Update User" to allow an already logged in user to "create a new site" on my multisite network. However, I've run in to a minor quirk: If I use the username as the Site address I get a validation error, "Sorry, that site is reserved!"

I created a quick screencast and uploaded the (unlisted) video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tSO05qlAoY

Of course I can use any "Site Address" other than the username and it works fine. Has anyone run into this before? Thoughts?

How can I solve this conflict? Thanks!

  2. If anyone is interested, I scooted around the problem by allows users to sign up with their email address as the "username". See: http://www.gravityhelp.com/forums/topic/upon-update-15-you-cannot-use-the-email-field-to-populate-the-username-field#post-246441

...which means there will never be a conflict when they go to choose a sub-domain for their network site.
