user posts upload image

Greetings. I'm interested in purchasing Gravity Forms, but I need to make sure it has the necessary functionality first. I'd like site users to be able to submit posts to the wanted board, and upload the image of what they're looking for. I'd like to be able to specify what folder the image is uploaded to, and I'd like to have some sort of security in action, to scan the image, before it's uploaded, to make sure it's safe. Does this make sense? Similar to what facebook and myspace do, performing a scan first, then if it's all good, accepting it. End result would be that a user of my site creates a post, uploads the image, and the post is ready to go, pending admin approval. I currently use TDO mini forms, and I think I can modify it to do this, but I'd be willing to purchase Gravity Forms today if I get confirmation that it'll do what I need. Thanks so much in advance!

  2. Gravity Forms can create posts and allow users to upload images. You can specify what folder images are uploaded to, but if you are using a form to create a post then you would be using Post Images and these go to your Media Library, which is handled by WordPress. So you wouldn't specify where Post Images go as the Media Library processes them and handles them.

I'm not sure what you mean by scan the image before it's uploaded to make sure it's safe. It doesn't have any kind of anti-virus or image scanning functionality (and i'm not aware of any WordPress plugins that do). That is server side functionality. Not only that but the image would have to be uploaded first before the server could even do any kind of scan on the image.

Thanks for the quick reply, Carl. RE image scanning, I guess what I meant would be something similar to facebook, or gmail, when you go to attach or upload a pic, and it automatically scans the image to make sure it's safe. You're the expert here, I just want to make sure I'm keeping my site as secure as possible. I realize that allowing users to create posts, and especially allowing them to upload jpgs, creates vulnerabilities. I feel like I need this function though, so I'm wondering how I can have the best of both worlds, and allow users to post to our wanted board, w/the image they're looking for, but keep the process secure. Any ideas? I would love nothing more than to buy the developer's license today, I just want to know that I'm not creating a security risk for the site. Thanks so much for your time.

How about controlling the uploading of potentially dodgy images by restricting form access to registered members and/or having posts submitted as draft so that you need to approve before release? Both of these options are possible with Gravity Forms (GF). The latter is pure GF functionality. The latter can be done with a few very good membership plugins.
