We want ToolTips! do it! do it! do it!

  1. "The tooltips are a user interface element of the Gravity Forms admin and not the forms themselves. It is something we'd like to add in the future, but it is not currently a built in feature of the forms. So there is no built in functionality in Gravity Forms to add tooltips.

If you wanted to implement tooltips on your forms you could do so, but you would have to implement it as a customization using an existing tooltip jQuery script. It's not something Gravity Forms itself is going to be able to provide you functionality for."

Come on... Let's add this one to the feature set... You're already doing it in the admin tool so share the code with the rest of us... :-)

  2. It's on the to-do list. We discussed it earlier today actually. The biggest things are deciding the most flexible way to include and display the tooltips and where/how to implement them logically in the form builder interface. We need to make sure that the UI stays as intuitive as possible and that introducing yet another piece of scripting on the front-end doesn't cause other conflicts.

We'd love to see it happen soon so we're brainstorming and will see if we can sneak some type of tooltip support into an upcoming version.

Yep, I would love to see tooltips added - realistically, what sort of time frames would we be looking at?

  7. Yes it seems so odd that these tool tips can be fully working on our back-ends but they do not allow us to use them on the front end - directly on the forms where they are needed MORE. Maybe they do not have the original programmers who have the skills to make that feature available on the front end also? Who knows but hopefully it becomes a feature sooner than later. It would be another feature that would show this form software is far better than another form making software.

  8. I was looking for the front end tooltip as well. I see you can add it in the back-end, but I need it on the front end to display to users as they are filling out a form.....

  9. You can add your own tooltips now, but you would have to do this as a customization. I detailed how using the "qtip" tooltip library that we use for the Gravity Forms admin a good while back. There are a few steps to getting it implemented, but this should point you in the right direction.

  11. Yes! This would be VERRRY helpful! Do you have any updates on when/whether this will be part of an upcoming release?

    Thanks!

  12. We no longer speculate on release dates for upcoming features. Your best bet would be to follow the blog for updates.

  13. for those interested, I made an add-on plugin that converts the existing description field into a tooltip. A few options exist (auto vs manual, icon or label hover) and more can be added.

please post any bugs / enhancement request in the GitHub repo so I can track them.

That looks great, Andrew. How would one go about installing this plugin? Is the code an add-on that works with the developer version of Gravity Forms, or is it a Wordpress plugin?

  16. This file right here is a WordPress plugin:

It works with any Gravity Forms license.

  17. I installed the folder (gf-tooltips-master) in my plugin folder but I do not see it in the WP Admin to activate. I am sure this is an error on my part but I can not figure out what I am doing wrong?

FIXED: (Folder within a Folder got me) ;o)
