Accepting Donations

  1. I've viewed http://www.gravityhelp.com/forums/topic/donation-field but I am still confused on how to accept donations with the form and have the transaction type be a donation. So there is no longer a donation field in the latest and greatest version of Gravity Forms, which I am using, correct? So I am using the Product field with a Field Type of User Defined Price.

Then I go to the PayPal menu, click Create New one, enter my email address, select Donation from the Transaction Type drop down field and select my Donation form from the Gravity Form drop down field and the screen returns the following:

The form selected does not have any Donation fields. Please add a Donation field to the form and try again.

Please provide details regarding how to set up donations for PayPal with Gravity Forms.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Which version of Gravity Forms are you using, and which version of the PayPal add-on?

  3. Gravity Forms = Version 1.6.2
    PayPal Addon = Version 1.3.1

    Thanks for the response!

  4. Hm, you shouldn't have to select a donation field with 1.3.1; however, if you send me an email at david@rocketgenius.com, I'll be more than happy to send you the latest version of the PayPal add-on which contains a couple bug fixes.

  6. Hi Matheson,

The latest version of the PayPal add-on is about to be released via automatic upgrade (you'll see it in the next hour or so). If you have any problems creating a donation feed after upgrading let me know.

  7. If you are running the latest version of the PayPal Add-On you should be able to create a Donation Transaction when creating a PayPal Feed.

But I do know what is causing the confusion. It's an error that wasn't updated when we deprecated the Donation Field. The error message shouldn't say:

"The form selected does not have any Donation fields. Please add a Donation field to the form and try again."

    What it should say is:

"The form selected does not have any Product fields. Please add a Product field to the form and try again."

So the issue is not that you don't have a Donation Field on the form, the issue is you don't have a Product Field on your form.

The Product Field is what is used now that we have deprecated the Donation Field. This is because the fields were different in name only so it was redundant. So we deprecated the Donation Field and now you simply use the Product Field.

So you create a Donation in PayPal no different than a non-Donation transaction. If you've configured the PayPal Feed as a Donation transaction then it's going to pass any selected Products, Options, etc. as the transaction information for the Donation.

The only difference is going to be PayPal is going to treat it as a Donation transaction rather than a standard payment or subscription transaction.

We just released a new version 1.4 of the PayPal Add-On this afternoon also, although what I outlined above applies to the 1.3 release also.
