Hi, the google recaptcha twists and bends the letters make it a very difficult experience for users. I want to use a simpler captcha, can i integrate any captcha with gravity forms or do i have to be forced to use the google recaptcha?

you can't easily add a new style of captcha. You can however download the Really simple captcha plugin and once it's activated, it shows up as a captcha option in the form editor. It's generally easier to read, and you also have the option to use it as a "math challenge" as well.
