Auto generating milage cost based on zip cde

  1. I'd like to be able to calculate milage costs by having a zip code or address field in my form. I have two basic areas (New Orleans and Northwest Mississippi) where I would not like to charge a travel rate, but then all other travel I would want to generate a charge based on how far away the location is from my Mississippi address. Is this possible?

  2. Sure, it's possible. What sort of database or service are you using to determine the distance between zip codes? You will need to lookup the distance between the zip code entered and your zip code, then perform a calculation and figure the charge based on that mileage.

  3. I have no idea how to even get started on this. I guess i would use google maps or something. I have no idea what my options are.

  4. Please do a little more research on how you are going to calculate the difference between the two zip codes. Once you have that information, we can help you with the Gravity Forms portion of it. We don't have enough information yet to be able to help you.

Here is one web page which will provide the information.

You will need something like that, but it will need to be a service you can query or a database you can lookup the values in.

  6. If you can determine how to get the information regarding the distance between two zip codes, we can probably help you with the rest.

  7. Chris, I have a similar request from a client (provide a quote based on the entry of two zip codes). Here's the service I thought of using: http://zipcodedistanceapi.redline13.com/

The existing form doesn't have this functionality, but this is the company: http://gstrucks.com/rate-quote-request/

Was thinking of probably splitting the whole thing into two forms; the first would collect basic information and allow us to collect user info, and then the second would display the quote (passed via GET, I'd think) and allow the user to accept it.

If you have a way to help me through the ZIP code portion of this, I'd be happy to write the whole thing up for future reference (I found a few related questions on here).
