when trying to activate Gravity when i have WP e-Commerce installed i get a blank page and the the whole WordPress back end doesn't work. I have to go to the FTP and manually deactivate it from there...

This is most likely a PHP Memory Error, in which you don't have enough memory.
You can increase the memory of your WordPress site using instructions found here: http://www.nerdgrind.com/increase-wordpress-and-php-memory-limit/
Otherwise, what you are experiencing is a Plugin conflict:

If the memory increase doesn't work, come back and comment again and we can do some further troubleshooting.
Not that I know of, but we've been upgrading quickly and as such, something could have developed recently. With just WP e-Commerce activated, can I get a link to your site to just look for potential issues.
peralty@rocketgenius.com - If you want me to have a user account for WordPress, I'm probably going to need FTP as well so I can remove GF when the admin goes blank. Hopefully, we can figure this out fairly quickly.
Replied to your e-mail. It seems you are still limited to 40MB of memory available for PHP. You'll have to get your web host to boost it up more if you want things to work. I checked this by turning Debug to True in your wp-config.php file.
