Combine Forms

  1. I have a website containing multiple videos. Under each video, I have a Gravity form asking for a code to be entered that is obtained by watching the video. I am also asking for comments for the video. What I'd like to do is have the code portion be specific to that video page but just have one comment area that can be added to each form. The idea is that the code portion must be exact to that page but the comment section is general for the website. I'd like my client to be able to view one place for comments instead of the 40+ different places for comments.

Does this make sense and is it possible?

    Thanks.

  2. You could use one form and then collect comments with that form, no matter what video was being watched. That would put all your comments in one place (the entries for this one form.)

What happens after the visitor enters the code? If they enter the wrong code, does the form fail to validate, or can they not view the comment section? How are you doing this now?

  3. Hi Chris,

Thanks for your response. Once the user enters the code for the video and clicks submit, they are redirected to the next video. Therefore, I'd like to use the Gravity form unique to each video page (because I have it set that they can only enter the exact code for that specific video) and then combine the one comment form to the various video code forms. The purpose is so that all comments left on any video can be viewed in one location instead of having to go through the form submissions for each video to view the comments (there are many videos). We know that the user put in the right code because they don't go to the next video unless the correct code has been added.

Please let me know if you require further explanation on any of the points.

    Thanks,
    Erik

  4. Thanks for the clarification. I understand all this so far:

Thanks for your response. Once the user enters the code for the video and clicks submit, they are redirected to the next video. I understand the unique forms for each video. I don't understand yet how you are using the one comment form (I understand the desire to have all comments in one location, hence the need for one form). If the visitor enters the code for the video and submits it, when do they get to input their comments? What is the sequence of events (for entering the code, entering the comment and going to the next form)?

Do you have any of this online so that I could take a look? Thank you.

  5. Hi Chris,

All of this is within a private area of the site. Let me try to explain it with more detail and if you'd still like to take a look, I can then provide login details.

For my site, when a user watches a video, immediately underneath the video is a Gravity Form containing two fields. One is a text field where they must type in the correct code given at the end of the video (to prove they watched the video). The second field is a simple Paragraph Text area where the user can submit comments about the video. These two fields are tied into one Gravity form for each page containing a video. In my case, there are 48 separate forms with these two fields.

What I'd like to do is continue to have 48 separate forms for where the user enters their video code but to just have one form for comments about the video. I'm envisioning some sort of a way to combine forms where the 1 of the 48 separate forms could be combined with the 1 comment form so that the video code is specific to that video but the comment form works across all of the videos. The video codes are specific to that page whereas the comments are general.

I'd like to just be able to look at the video comments entries within one form instead of having to open up 48 different forms to view the entries.

Is this possible? Please let me know if you have any questions or need access to the existing website. Sorry for my delayed response.

    Regards,
    Erik
