Create content template issues

    1. Create content template option works only in the "Body" Post field but it doesn't work in the "Custom Field". Is it right?

    2. I put the following options in the Post Body content template: Contry: {Country:4}
    , Director: {Director:2}, Year: {Year:5}, Genre: {Genre:6}. The new post is created by a user and I can see these entries in the post. Is it possible to make a search of these entries from the frontend, e.g. "Search [enter_director_name]".

    3. Do you have any tutorial how to make user generated posts?

    1. The content template option also works for Custom Fields as well.
    2. Any information that you would like to search a post for, I would recommend also storing as a custom field. You can then create custom queries and look for specific values across all posts' custom fields. If you are new to WP this might be a bit advanced but perhaps a good place to start getting your hands dirty as well. You can find more information on custom queries by custom field here.
    3. I don't believe we do have any tutorials on this subject but that's a great idea. We're actually hoping to do more tutorials and walk-throughs this year so I will definitely add this to the list.

    Thanks David, but I still cannot make it work. I created a form with Post Title and Post Custom Field. I want the "Title" would be a post title (this works fine), and "Director" field to show up in the user post (this is not working). I made a screen captures in this file: http://www.mothernaturerx.com/fs/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/new_movie_form.png
    Could you please check it and comment what I did wrong? By the way, when I use Post Body form (visible only to Admin) and its content template option, then it seems to work. Please help.

  3. Hi Pix3x,

    A few things to note. On section 1 of your screen shot, you've got the content template set up for the custom field, but you did not specify a custom field name for that content to be created for. http://grab.by/9WvC

    With that said, in section 3 of your screen shot, you indicate that the custom field is not displaying. This is because TwentyTen (the theme used in the screenshot) is not set up to output the post's custom fields. Custom fields require custom code to display on the front end of the site.

    What might be easiest for you is to just use the Post Body content template as it does not require any additional code to display the content on the front end.

    In regards to your original request for searching the posts by director, I still recommend having a custom field for the director in addition to your post body content in order to facilitate searching by just the director; however, if this proves to be a challenge, there are several plugins out there that will let you do full text searches of posts (allowing you search for the director in the post content).

    Unfortunately, I am not a web programmer but I would like to have the best code possible for this task. Do you know any good WordPress developer who can do such project for me for a reasonable price? The site mock-up is in the PDF file here:

    Any help or recommendation is highly appreciated. My email is pix3x@yahoo.com. Thanks.
