Creating Linked Order Forms

  1. I have no clue where to start at with this so any input would be greatly appreciated. I have several (more than 20 now) business card designs that I have as options for a client. I need to create a page where they can view the different options, select the one of choice, and then be automatically taken to another form where it asks for the information that's supposed to go on the business card. Once they complete that, I need them to be directed to Paypal to submit payment for the order. I went back and forth with David Smith before buying this and he advised it's certainly achievable, I just don't have a clue where to start. Any suggestions, besides hire a designer.

  2. Hi jclark,

The first place I'd say to start is getting the fields set up for the business cards. I'm assuming you'll want to use the Radio Button field. Tip: the label for each radio button can include HTML (such as the <img> tag) so you can include the business card graphic with each option. You'll want to set the "value" property of each radio option to something your business can identify that business card design.

After the user has selected their business card design, you can use Gravity Forms multi-page form feature to send the user to the next page of the same order form. On this page, you can collect whatever information you need.

From here, you can go ahead and install the Gravity Forms PayPal Add-on (assuming you purchased the developer license?). You can find documentation on installing the PayPal Add-on and integrating it with your Gravity Form here:

Let me know what other questions come up while you're building this. :)

  3. This is a great place to start thanks. I did purchase my developer license so I shouldn't have any issues. I'll probably have a question or two when I dig into it further. Thank you!!

  4. Ok I'm still clueless. Can you take a look at what I have setup and let me know if I can incorporate the forms into this page or if I need to create a form page and then work to get this look. I really want clients to be able to view the card in a larger size like when you click on it before they make their selection. Sorry for the ignorance but I'm a total newb and appreciate any help.

  6. I'm not sure what exactly you are looking for. Gravity Forms can do what you want to do and we can can give you a quick rundown of what you need to do but ultimately you need to implement it.

It's difficult to tell you exactly what you need to do because you have a specific use case and there are a lot of unanswered questions.

Do the business card designs have different prices?

Do the business card designs each potentially require different form fields associated with the order form if a user wants to order that design?

Or will the order form for every design and the pricing for every design be the same for all?

If it's different per card design then you'd probably want to setup a form for each card design. That would be simple... create a form using Gravity Forms specific to that design. Use the PayPal Add-On to integrate collecting payment.

If it's not different per card design then you'd create one order form and embed it on a page on your site. You would add a field to that form that gets pre-populated with the design selected using the dynamic field population. You would then update the page that displays the designs so that the link to the order form passes the design name in the query string. This would then pre-populate the field you configured to that design name.

If this is all confusing and you aren't sure where to start you may want to consider hiring a consultant with Gravity Forms experience to set this up for you. What you describe sounds like it would be a piece of cake for someone with more Gravity Forms experience to implement.

  7. I need a page to display exactly as you see it but have radio buttons below them where a customer can select their option. All cards are going to be the same price. I still want the customer to be able to click just the image and have it display larger using the jquery lightbox i have with them. Once a client makes a decision, i want them to simply check the radio button for their selection and then be taken to a order form where they'll be prompted to provide their information along with the information to be included on the card. Once they complete that form they'll need to be taken to a payment page using the paypal add-on.

So it sounds like I have to create this page from scratch as opposed to working with what I have. I don't have the money to hire a consultant so can you direct me to a tutorial on gravity forms that would assist me with this project. For example, can you list the different things I would need to study up on like dynamic forms population and maybe even point me to the respective tutorials.

  9. Hi jclark,

    Let's start from the top.

The first step is to setup a radio field and add an option for each business card design you are offering.

Next, you can add the business card thumbnails to the label for each radio button option. To do so just add the image via HTML in the "label" portion of the field, like so:

Let me know once you've got this part setup and we can move on to the next bit. :)
