custom field validation using a database

I saw it alluded to here: http://www.gravityhelp.com/forums/topic/data-validation-for-coupon-codes that you can use the custom field validation along with a database for validation. I can't find how to do that anywhere though. Can you point me in the right direction?

    Thanks!

That post you linked includes all you need to know about Gravity Forms to be able to validate against entries in a database.

You'll want to create a custom function that includes database queries to pull your data and then code to test it against submitted data and return results.

Unfortunately, the post is no help to me. I am a PHP novice and don't have any idea how to write this type of code based on the information provided.

You might want to hire a PHP developer to take on solving your issues as they could deal with all of them before your Sunday deadline.

You can have a input field that says Coupon Code. You can have a product with a negative value that is only conditionally shown when the Coupon Code input box gets the right value. This will update the total, and thus the total sent to Paypal.
