Do I Need Both PayPal Standard and PayPal Pro?

  1. Hi, My donation form needs to give the donor the option of either donating by credit card on our website (through PayPal Pro) or donating through PayPal. Do I need both the PayPal Pro Add-On and the PayPal Standard Add-On? Or will the Pro take care of both scenarios?

  2. PayPal Pro will handle everything on your site, without redirecting to PayPal. The visitor would need a credit card to pay on your site. If you use the PayPal website payments standard add-on, the visitor will always be directed to PayPal and can pay their with their credit card or their PayPal balance.

    Does that answer your question?

  3. If I want the donor to have the option of paying on my site or going through PayPal directly, do I need both the Pro and the Standard add-ons? Like, I'm going to have radio buttons with these options:

Donate with credit card on our website
    Donate through PayPal
    Donate through Mail

If they select the first one, they will be prompted on our site to add their credit card information (which I understand that we need a PayPal Pro account for this, which we have).

If they select the second option, they will be taken to PayPal to log-in to their PayPal account and pay there. This is the option I'm stumped on. How does Gravity Forms know that if they select this 2nd option it needs to take them to the PayPal log-in? Is that where the Standard add-on comes into play?

  4. If you want some transactions processed on your site, you want the PayPal Payments Pro add-on. If you want the ability for people to sometimes pay at PayPal.com, you need the PayPal Payments Standard add-on.

Sounds like you will already have a radio button offering the visitor the choice of payment method. If that's the case, you can use that choice when you map the feed, as a PayPal condition. I would install and configure both add-ons, then build your form, then map your feed using the PayPal condition. You will have two separate feeds, and the PayPal condition will be different in each one: one feed will be used to keep visitors on your site and pay with a credit card (which will be handled by the PayPal Pro add-on) and the other feed will be used to send visitors to PayPal to complete their transaction. That will be handled by the PayPal Standard add-on.
