Email is invalid - on Android tablet

I have 2 gravity forms on my website - a contact us form and a paypal form.
Both work fine on my PC, but when I go to my site on a Samsung Galaxy tablet, both forms often reject the user's email. (Often but not always!).

As a test, I made the email not required. Then, if I leave the email blank, the form is accepted. But if I enter any email address, it tells me that the email is invalid, even although I marked it as not required.

I am using the latest Wordpress and the Headway theme.

    Any ideas?

  2. Do you have HTML5 output turned on? To check go to the Settings page of Gravity Forms (Forms > Settings). If you do, try turning this off and then test. If you don't, try turning this on and then test.

    HTML5 was off.

I tried turning it on. Didn't help - still tells me "there was a problem with your submission". The error is the email address is still seen as invalid!

    Any other ideas?

  4. No ideas. These are standard forms. With HTML 5 output enabled the input type of the email input is set to email. We aren't doing anything unusual. I can't replicate this issue on the major browsers, nor can I replicate the issue on my iPhone or iPad. It sounds like there is a bug with the Samsung Galaxy browser.

Does the form work properly every time when Previewing the form in the admin and submitting it from there? Try that with your Samsung Galaxy. If it submits fine then it's possible there is some sort of CSS in your Headway site that the Galaxy doesn't like that is triggering some sort of browser bug.

We don't own or use Android tablets so I can't test this myself.

I previewed the form and submitted it from there. Still doesn't like the email.

Do you have or know of a gravity form set up somewhere that I can try and fill in from my Samsung Galaxy tablet? That could show whether its all gravity forms or just my site.

  6. Feel free to submit any of the forms on my site. They're all test forms. Some might not work, but most will.

I tried your form here: http://gravity.chrishajer.com/event-registration/

Guess what: you have the same problem! It does not accept the email as valid when entered on my Samsung Galaxy Tab.

I tried filling in the form on my PC using the same email and it worked fine on my PC.

Then I tried another form on another of my sites - this one is in Drupal and does not use Gravity forms - and that one accepts the same email address from my Samsung without a problem.

  8. It's going to have to be something with the data that's being sent by the tablet, not being recognized as a valid format for an email address. Do you have a way to capture the form POST as it's being sent to the form?

If you use a text field instead of an email field, can you look at the email address that's being saved in the form entry, to see if there is some sort of character translation or something?

I cannot see what it is. Some emails it accepts, most it doesn't.

Entering the email into a text field didn't show any problems.

If anyone else is using an Android tablet or phone, please try Chris's form here: http://gravity.chrishajer.com/event-registration/

Please tell us if it accepts an email.
