Email to customer after Paypal transaction

  1. I tagged this question onto another post with a similar question, but got no response, so I thought I would try it as a new post to see if I can get an answer.

    In the Paypal addon....

When I uncheck "Send user notification only when payment is received", the email notification goes to the customer immediately after hitting the submit button.

When I check "Send user notification only when payment is received", no email notification is sent to the customer at all.

Does this have anything to do with the fact that I am testing with a Paypal sandbox account?

    Thanks

    Pam

  2. Nope. It's going to have to do with PayPal not responding back to your site notifying Gravity Forms that payment was received. If no payment is received by Gravity Forms then no email notification is going to be sent if you checked that option.

Did you fully complete the checkout process and make the purchase in your tests? If so was the entry that was created updated and marked as approved with a PayPal transaction ID? Check the entries to see.

If the entries still say Processing then this means PayPal IPN was unable to communicate with your site to update the entry, and in turn the notification would not be sent because that is when it would be triggered.

  3. Yes, I completed the checkout process (several times) and when all was completed, was taken back to the site with my "thank you for your order message".

    Please pardon my ignorance, but.....

You asked, >> "If so was the entry that was created updated and marked as approved with a PayPal transaction ID? Check the entries to see" <<

... how, and where do I do that?

    Thanks

  4. You go to Entries in Gravity Forms. You get there by either clicking on the Entries link in the Forms navigation or by clicking the Entries link in the toolbar that appears when editing a form. It's where you browser the form submissions which are called entries in Gravity Forms.

You need to view the entry for the order you submitted and see if the payment status is Processing or if it's been mark as approved/paid and has a PayPal transaction id associated with it. You'll see this information in the right hand sidebar when viewing an entry.

  5. It looks like it has been paid. The buyer email is still not being sent.

    Should I call Paypal support?

    Thanks

  6. OK, oddly enough it suddenly started working (shrug)

The return address appears to be coming from Bluehost.com though (my webhost), instead of the address that I put in the "from email" field on the notifications setup. Is there a way for me to fix this?

    Thanks

  7. You will have to discuss the return email issue with BlueHost. We had a similar issue with them and when we explained what was going on, they were able to assist in correcting the issue.

  8. I talked to Bluehost, and the solution was a plugin called "Mail From". I installed it and it solved the return email address problem.

    Thanks for your help!

  9. Thanks for the update Pam. I like using the Mail From plugin. It's a little out of date but still seems to work with the latest WordPress.
