Error when exporting form data to .csv

  1. When trying to export field data, I get the following error":

    "File not found
Firefox can't find the file at https://www.texomaeats.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=gf_export."

    Any ideas?

  2. What version of Gravity Forms are you running? Do you have the latest v1.6.1 released installed or is this an older version?

Posted 12 years ago on Monday November 21, 2011 | Permalink
  3. Yes. 1.6.1 is running.

  4. Are you able to use the WordPress Export functionality fine?

Test this by going to your WordPress Dashboard on the same site having this issue, go to Tools in the WordPress navigation and then choose Export. Then select Posts or Pages and try exporting them. Let me know if this export works.

Gravity Forms uses the same method for exporting entry data, so I want to see if the built in WordPress export functionality is working or not before we can proceed and determine what could be causing this. It's going to be server related.

  5. This can happen if you have a lot of entries, or your entries have a lot of data, especially when you don't limit the date range. The server runs out of memory, and the file is not created. How many entries are you trying to export, and how many fields in each entry?

Also, can you try reducing the date range or number of fields exported, as a test, to see if you can export at all, with less data?

  6. Carl,
Yes WP Export Tool successfully exports the data to a .xml file.

    Chris,
There are currently 295 records with 30 fields to be exported. Majority of those fields have 5-20 characters.

Have tried exporting smaller numbers of fields, records, etc. Always get the same error message.

    File not found
Firefox can't find the file at https://www.texomaeats.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=gf_export.

Any workarounds or anything else you can come up with?

  7. Just noticed something that may or may not be relevant.

When trying to choose date range I see only space for Month and Year. When clicking into the field a pull-down selection of months and years appears. So, I am not able to insert a specific date range ie: 11/21/2011-11/22/2011, just an entire month at a time. Is this normal?

  8. Troubleshooting. Have looked at other user issues and tried the solutions suggested.

    1. Using Safari, GForms DID create a export file, but after numerous attempts, all files were empty. No data in them.

    2. created wp-content/uploads/gravity_forms and set permission to 777. Did not resolve issue.

  9. This doesn't sound normal. When setting the Date in the export it uses a Calendar based Date Picker which should let you choose a date on a calendar and then it will insert an exact date like: 11/1/2011.

Here is what you should see when you click on the start or end date in the Export Entries screen:

Is this not what you are seeing? Are you seeing a different UI or something using drop downs?

If you are not seeing this then it's possible you have a plugin or theme conflict changing the jQuery Datepicker functionality.

Another thing that can cause problems with exporting entries is lack of available PHP memory. So for both these issues I would suggest...

    1) Increase your available PHP memory. I recommend a minimum of 64 MB and ideally 128 MB or more. Here is a tutorial on how to do so:

    http://www.nerdgrind.com/increase-wordpress-and-php-memory-limit/

    2) If the Datepicker UI for the start and end date does not appear as in my screenshot above, then you should test for plugin and theme conflicts by following these instructions:

  10. I'm having the same issue. I'm exporting a form, all fields in Chrome and I'm not even seeing a "file not found error". It simply shows the loading animation and then stops. If I view the console I can see it's trying to get the following: http://cl.ly/CZiY

Then if I copy and paste that link in manually, I get a page not found error.

Permissions are set properly, PHP memory is set high, and I have the latest version. I also turned off ALL plugins (except GF) and switched to Twenty Eleven and still no dice. Any ideas?

  11. Can you try exporting a smaller date range, or fewer fields? Can you describe the data you are exporting, how many entries of fields. It is normally a PHP memory issue. If you try exporting less data, you can determine if it's a memory error.

  12. Yeah I just tried it with a single field from October to December and it's still not working: http://cl.ly/CZXD

My PHP memory limit is set to 100MB, so that can't be the issue.

  13. Can you enable WP_DEBUG in your wp-config.php? Or do you have access to PHP error logs? There is something going on causing this to error it out but it's hard to guess without knowing the error causing the CSV to go missing.

  14. Are you really still using Version 1.3.11? The export function has been rewritten and works differently now.

  15. Oh lord... I'm so sorry. It wasn't showing an Update Available, so I assumed it was the latest. I'll upgrade. Thanks for your help. ;)

  16. You might have to do a manual upgrade. Download the plugin and install via FTP. (DO NOT click the "Uninstall Gravity Forms" as that will delete all your forms and entries. Just delete the plugin folder and then upload the new version.) The automatic upgrade functionality was broken for a few releases when WordPress 3.0 came out.

Please upgrade and see if that fixes your export. If not, let us now and we'll troubleshoot further.

  17. That fixed it of course, sorry about the bother. Gravity Forms rocks, btw. We use it on every site we launch!

  18. Awesome. Thanks very much for upgrading and continuing to use Gravity Forms.
