Export Doesn't Work Anymore

  1. Are you guys kidding me? I -- and other users -- post that Exporting form data stopped working after upgrading to WP3.0 and you reply that you know about it and you're going to fix it in a future release, then close that thread to further comments? And what would you like me to tell my clients who can no longer export their form data and are burning up my phones right now freaking out? That's the most ridiculously poor way to run a business -- and you are a business, I did pay for this thing -- that I've ever heard.

  2. We closed the thread because 1) it's a known issue, 2) we acknowledged it as such and 3) we are working on correcting it. We are rewriting the export process because some (NOT ALL or even most) web server configurations do not work properly with it.

Did we delete the thread? Nope. Did we try to cover up the fact that the bug exists? Certainly not. There is no reason to leave that particular thread open because there is nothing to add to the discussion.

We are working on a fix and will be releasing it once it is ready to go.

  3. Carl, try to put yourself in your clients' shoes. I've got two customers who need -- regularly, as part of their ongoing business -- to export records they collect via Gravity Forms. They can't do that anymore and understandably turned to their web person -- me -- for answers. They neither know nor care what Gravity Forms are, they just want their sites to work. So for both of them I had to whip up a fallback -- lost hours and dollars for me not to mention squandering some good will.

If I were you, I might have tried asking people with the issue for some specific info. about their server configurations since you seem to think that's the issue -- though it seems unlikely given that nothing about the servers has changed on this end other than the version of WP. Still, lists of hardware, software and plugins might pretty quickly help you track down likely culprits.

  4. This is getting more than a little off topic. Let's keep to the support issues and not worry about dispensing business advice here.

We've explained that we're working on the issue, that a fix is forthcoming and that's pretty much all there is at the moment. We have discussed the issue in depth with several other people at this point and just need the time to work out the issues.

I do regret that you've been inconvenienced and please know it's a priority item so we'll get a fix out there as soon as we can. You'll just have to be satisfied with that for now.

Asking people for specific info, additional feedback and server configurations doesn't matter in this situation because we already know what the issue is.

We are redesigning and redeveloping the export functionality from the ground up to ensure users do not encounter export issues once we release the update. We aren't just going to rush out a fix that is purely a short term patch. This takes time.

The update will be released next week.

Just adding a note for anyone, like me, who came to this forum to debug this:

In my installation at least, the csv was generated, just not available for download. I had to fish it out via ftp. In my case it was in:

    /wp-content/uploads/gravity_forms/2

There were a few .csv files in there, the one I needed was the most recent.

Having the same issue with my clients who are freaking out because they can't export their data since the upgrade to WP 3.0! Thanks for your prompt attention to fixing this

  8. Kevin & Carl: My point wasn't to start a "trash Gravity Forms" thread -- I've been pretty consistent all along in praising your product. But you guys seriously need to be a bit less sensitive and just look at what myself and others are writing. Thanks to hardatsleep I see that yes, it is generating the CSV files, it's simply a download issue. So I could have saved myself a lot of hassle had I known that a few days ago -- my clients could have used FileManager to just download the CSV -- ugly but an acceptable short term workaround.

Thanks a ton hardatsleep, you just made my Sunday afternoon a lot easier -- thought I was going to spend it doing a bunch of PHPmyAdmin exports so I could send everyone the reports they need. Cheers!

  9. Nobody's being sensitive here. We're pretty thick-skinned. You had a bit of a rant, we replied and were frank about our position. We've consistently listened to everyones comments and have acted as necessary and as expeditiously as we can to get things done. Of course, there's always room for improvement so we'll keep working to be better.

The new export functionality will be released next week as Carl and I have stated many times so that should get the immediate problem resolved for you.

Since you're a more advanced user, I was under the impression you already knew the backups were stored on the server, so didn't suggest doing it manually that way. My apologies.

How about a big virtual group hug and we move on to bigger and better things?

  10. Group hug sounds great. Glad to find the csv's in upload folder, but the file download after export is still not working for me. Did this fix get released as suggested?

  11. The entry export was rewritten in the 1.3.13 release. So if you haven't upgraded to 1.3.13 I would suggest doing so. The actual current version number is 1.3.13.1 which was released earlier this week.

We also recommend you run the latest version of Gravity Forms.

  12. Hi Carl, Running latest version at pianocentralstudios.com trying to export a registration form. I click export and something runs and then I get no link to download. When I look at the code, there is an iframe produced with an error saying the file was not found. We're running on godaddy if that helps.

    Thanks!

  13. Are you able to export posts using the built in WordPress export tool (Tools > Export)?

Posted 14 years ago on Wednesday July 28, 2010 | Permalink
  14. Yes, I am.

Posted 14 years ago on Wednesday July 28, 2010 | Permalink
  15. Thats really odd because the form entry export exports the exact same way. Although I must say i'm not surprised the issue is happening on GoDaddy hosting as they are by far the source of the most server related issues we have encountered.

In order to look into your issue further we would need both a WordPress admin login to this site and FTP access to be able to debug the issue which is most likely a Godaddy server configuration related issue.
