Are there any known issues that would stop the event binding from working? I'm certain this is something basic as what I'm doing is identical to the other examples/questions on the site.

For the other GravityForm-ers stuck with this, here was the outcome:
Try putting the call to the gform_post_render event in an HTML field on your form. Just paste the entire script block into the field.
Seems to work a treat for me!
